Fourth Resident Evil Movie Possible

Well, in the realm of movies based on games, the "Resident Evil" trilogy isn't too bad. Paul W.S. Anderson did manage to make them semi-entertaining despite the lousy critic feedback, and he also has the original "Mortal Kombat" to his credit. Therefore, we accept the news that a fourth RE movie could be in the works with a hopeful shrug.

According to the MTV Movies blog, Anderson is currently in the process of negotiating a fourth "Resident Evil" big-screen installment, which probably won't surprise anyone who saw the last one, "Resident Evil: Extinction." We won't give away the ending, but let's just say it begs for a sequel. However, despite this story cliffhanger, it seems Anderson isn't sold on just continuing that plot line, as he indicated in this comment:

"I love the Resident Evil franchise and we always try to make the best possible movie we can. If we could find a good Resident Evil 4 to make, then we would do it. But I wouldn't just do it for the sake of it, that's for sure."

Well, that's good news. Movie critics can spot lame, half-hearted, "I just did it for the hell of it" projects, and so can gamers who avidly follow one of their favorite franchises. But anyway, even if a fourth RE movie doesn't arrive, Anderson is already planning to immortalize other games on the silver screen, like Spy Hunter and Castlevania. He's not bad at this whole game-to-movie thing, but he best not mess up the latter!

Loved the first one, hated what they did to Nemesis in the second movie, thought the third movie was decent, although they definately moved away from the whole fun of the games, making it more of a Sci-Fi zombie movie, instead of what it should be... A a mass hysteria city of people running for the lives in a gore fest with slow moving, flesh eating zombies moaning about nothing (or the rising price of blood [oil?]). Still say to date the best zombie movie would be the remake of Dawn of The Dead.

On that note... Where Mila Jovovich is concerned, I'll pay full ticket price to see her in just about anything... As I told a friend, get me a date with Mila, and you can have my PS3, my 360, and just about everything else I have! Course, she's a gamer as I understand :P
Mila... If you're listening... You, me, MGO, right now!

Wait! Spy hunter? Seriously? How much of a story can you build around Spy Hunter? Don't get me wrong. Its a classic in my books but I just don't see it a movie. Maybe an anime. Castlevania would be cool on the other hand. Though I wasn't an avid fan of the game but I played through the gameboy cart.

that should be cool I quite enjoy the RE movies. I think a good movie to make however would be Freelancer :), the Order and the LSF fit in nicely and the plot twist would be cool :)

Oh HELL NO! Resident Evil Movies are god awful! I love Zombie Films & The 1st 3 Resident Evil games, but the films are terrible. They should have just followed the original storys. The series is just to full of corny action scenes, rather than focusing on the Zombie threat at hand. If you like these films do me a favour, Watch Night, Dawn & Day of the Dead.

There is a secret to enjoying film adaptations of video games. You must completely seperate the film and game story lines. Video game story's won't work well for movies it's that simple. A game takes anywhere from 8-100 hours to complete. Movies are 2 hours (3 maybe) long. I understand that very little of most games are "story" but the story for games in general make no sense without the action, and a movie would be boring if it were filled with a ton of repetitive action sequences.

I also believe I may be the only gamer on the planet that loves the RE movies and hates the games (survival horror games are boring, get over it), so bring on number 4.

first.. what happened to the Resident Evil: Degeneration thing? thought that was supposed to be the 4th film and was all CGI.. there was a trailer on the DVD/Blu-Ray of Extinction, showcasing Claire and Leon in an Airport in the middle of a breakout..

and i have to agree with matrixkurt here, this seems to be stretching it a bit for 'psx' news.. love the site and all Ben but don't think this fits all that well... i suppose one could consider it 'gaming' news but only in the flimsiest of definitions...

RE:degeneration May be alright, The only 2 Game to Film movies i class as acceptable are Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children ( In japanese with subs, the english voice actors are dreadful!) & Silent Hill ( Which is pretty good!)

Other than them they've all been appauling, I think Resistance would work. but back to RE4 They need to ditch the action & focus on classic Horror.
