Don't Rule Out Diablo III For Consoles

At first, Blizzard would only confirm that the freshly announced Diablo III would come for the PC and Mac, much to the chagrin of many a console owner. However, not all hope is lost; a recent Guardian interview with Blizzard COO Paul Sams and a Eurogamer interview with Vice President of Game Design Rob Pardo has shown there's always a chance...

In Sams' words, in answer to whether or not the third Diablo would come to a next-gen console, he told The Guardian "he doesn't know yet." In further elaboration, Sams said it would depend mostly on whether or not "console owners would allow PC players to play against console gamers" - which might be interpreted in a variety of ways - and if the team can make the gameplay experience "the same" on consoles, especially where control is concerned. We can understand not wishing to sacrifice quality with multiplat releases (a philosophy some developers have yet to embrace), and seems to be the crux of the issue: and as Sams says, "we aren't willing to compromise."

In the interview with Pardo, he admitted that it's "theoretically possible" and that Diablo III would be "the easiest game to translate, but it would still take a bit of work." So, what do you say, console gamers? Do you want this game bad enough...? Think Blizzard will hand it over?

I so want this game to come out on consoles!
although, for some reason it feels like if it did come out on consoles it would come out exclusively on 360...i dont know, its just a feeling that i get.

Well, With a game like this, without a doubt it would be better on PC... But I would still like to see it hit consoles because I am on my PS3 more than my PC... But thats just me.

I'm just gonna wait and see. If they dont release it, then fine, if they do, fantastic. But it had better be a lot better than Diablo for the PSone

If they can nail down the architecture they'll find that the PS3 out performs today PC's in multitasking and everything else.Once they can do that there is more they can add to the PS3 ver. But to be equal we wont see that happen.DIII would be on my list of "Must Haves" for the PS3.

LCF, I don't agree with you entirely. I think a souped up PC rigg, inclusive of the new generation of GFX boards currently available, really do punch in higher throughputs than the PS3... and at higher resolutions.

Whilst the PS3 is now firmly stuck in this generation... think 2-3 years from now, what GPU chips will be available to slot right into your rigg... saying this though, I still believe we have not seen the best of the PS3 yet, upcoming titles should show what the PS3 is truely made of, including the completed GT5, which will be a showcase no doubt.

There is no reason why DiabloIII cannot come out on PS3, and no reason why it cannot be rendered in 1900x1080p. The PS3 has the grunt for it. I don't mind getting a keyboard and mouse for the PS3 to play a game.

Let us not forget that when "HOME" is released people will more than likely want to chat/type. They will not want to write in complex chat lines using the controller... can you imagine how long that will take. So should "HOME" really take off, there will be, if not now, eventually, a healthy stock of keyboards and mice out there happily attached to a PS3, making games like DiabloIII a viable business case...

I'll just say this- we most certainly haven't seen the best of the PS3 yet; forget technical specs and just look at the history of the PS1 and PS2. Compare launch titles of those systems to titles released in the latter part of the generation...FFXII vs. Summoner? GT4 vs. Smugglers Run? Many times, it's as if they're on two completely different systems.

And while I do agree that a high-end PC can do what the PS3 can do (for now), one will NEVER find such a good PC rig for a mere $400. ;)

If Blizzard is serious about allowing PC players to play against console players (cross platform multiplayer) that means that Diablo (if it comes to consoles at all) would be exclusive to either PS3 or 360. Because live is a closed network Diablo III would have to be one of those Windows Live games for cross-platform to be possible with 360. If blizzard doesn't use windows live (which they won't) then in theory cross platform multiplayer is possible between Windows PC, Mac, and PS3. Don't know if that statement actually meant anything but if it did and if they make a console version then I expect PS3 owners will have something 360 owners don't.

There are way to many ifs though.

Recently everything released by blizzard looks like a rehashed WoW GUI, D3 seems to be no exception. Of course i'm not going to let the graphics get in the way of me playing and enjoying a game it's just something that's been bugging me.

i dont know man, i see a diablo game, not a WoW rehash.

And, they haven't really released anything since WoW, except for footage of starcraft 2 and Diablo 3. But everyone has their opinion, its just that nowadays, it seems cool to hate WoW, and everytime blizz announces a new game, the WoW haters ( i don't play the game btw ) accuses it of being a WoW carbon copy

The current hot debate of D3 is the way it looks. Some say its not dark enough compared to the older games. Although blizz did change some of the art for Startcraft 2, i hope this is one of those times when they don't listen to the nay sayers. Only 2 areas have been revealed, yet they are so sure that its too "colorful" or "not gothic and dark enough"

All that from 2 areas....

Well, I'd say they'd have an easier time on the PS3... We can install gigs worth of space like a PC, take updates like a PC, can support custom content, we have a keyboard, and umm... Well... The original Diablo was on the PS1, so yeah... I stay make a PS3 release for it was well!

i think if blizzard does bring it for consoles, its imperative for them to use battle.net, actually, that's the only way i can see that working out. especially if they plan on having consoles vs computer users.

i for one would gladly purchase a mouse and keyboard for the ps3 version, but only if its possible to play against pc owners. This is a game that doesnt need its install base divided

@ Q, I would use a head set rather than a controller or a key board to talk with. but, if the other person doesnt have a head set, I'd just use the key board. Some times I cant stand the controller when I have to type, unless its really short! I cant stand messaging sometimes.

Seriously Ben, who keeps giving out thumbs down? I mean...someone is being an obvious douche but I have no idea but its been going on lately. Btw, if you do compare the first couple of years of the PS2 games compared to the later years...WOW!!! Its amazing what they've learned to do with it. I'm just scared to see what my PS3 can do...perhaps it can figure out a way to save me on gas? It helps with cancer research already so why not?!? :)

@Q,PC's GPU handle major part of the graphics as a whole but alot of mutitasking of the game is handled thru the main CPU of the PC.Cell with it's 6 SPEs does all the graphics rendering,AI,Physics, ect.and the RSX is left to draw it out to video(which dont require alot of ram to do so)You can make all the ram in the world and improve graphic cards all you want but if you dont upgrade your core CPU it means nothing.Only way for PC to match is make a 6 Core, then again it's still old gen technology, just threaded together.Cell is a true next gen chip,it does all the rendering within it's self.PC will never match it unless it up grades as a whole.Cell can process 7.1 sound,High Def. 120hz fps video out,HDMI 1.3a.IBM(Sony,Toshiba) made a true wonder in the Cell.Go look up Roadrunner that IBM made,It's the fastest supercomputer on Earth, all powered by the Cell.
