Firmware 2.41 Slated For "Mid-Week?"
There are three groups of people who tried downloading firmware update 2.40 for the PlayStation 3 last week: the first group is - thankfully - in the majority; they acquired the update and are currently enjoying the in-game XMB and Trophy support with no problems. The second group tried downloading it and suffered some major system issues (some so bad the hard drive went to crap). The third group simply missed their chance to download 2.40 after Sony pulled it from their servers to fix the reported problems.
If you're in either of the last two groups, you'll be happy to know that according to one source, Sony plans to issue firmware update 2.41 some time "mid-week." That could be around Wednesday, although we're just inferring that from the mid-week estimation. This information comes courtesy of CVG, although Sony has yet to provide us with any official announcement concerning the progress of this soon-to-be freshly fixed update. If you missed 2.40, you can download it from any number of sites on the Internet, but if you're concerned, it's best to wait until Sony tosses up 2.41. No need to risk your machine just 'cuz you're a little impatient, right?
We only have one last question: Sony has already said that if we downloaded 2.40 without any problems, we're good to go. But they're not exactly re-issuing 2.40; this new update is 2.41. So will everyone have to acquire it? That's something we'd hope Sony will clarify when they're ready to make an announcement, which should be within the next few days.
