Firmware 2.41 Slated For "Mid-Week?"

There are three groups of people who tried downloading firmware update 2.40 for the PlayStation 3 last week: the first group is - thankfully - in the majority; they acquired the update and are currently enjoying the in-game XMB and Trophy support with no problems. The second group tried downloading it and suffered some major system issues (some so bad the hard drive went to crap). The third group simply missed their chance to download 2.40 after Sony pulled it from their servers to fix the reported problems.

If you're in either of the last two groups, you'll be happy to know that according to one source, Sony plans to issue firmware update 2.41 some time "mid-week." That could be around Wednesday, although we're just inferring that from the mid-week estimation. This information comes courtesy of CVG, although Sony has yet to provide us with any official announcement concerning the progress of this soon-to-be freshly fixed update. If you missed 2.40, you can download it from any number of sites on the Internet, but if you're concerned, it's best to wait until Sony tosses up 2.41. No need to risk your machine just 'cuz you're a little impatient, right?

We only have one last question: Sony has already said that if we downloaded 2.40 without any problems, we're good to go. But they're not exactly re-issuing 2.40; this new update is 2.41. So will everyone have to acquire it? That's something we'd hope Sony will clarify when they're ready to make an announcement, which should be within the next few days.

Everyone will not need to download it because it is still the same firware, with no additional features. I think that it will be your choice to download it.

Hopefully they release it soon. I'm in the 3rd group and trying to be patient. All my buddies got the update without any problems at all

I can almost guarantee that everyone will have to get this update. Look at the PSP as an example, if a game said you needed firmware 3.71, an you had 3.70, you had to update for the game to even let you start. And besides, although THIS has never happened, we've always had to update to the newest firmware to be able to get online, even when those updates were really close together.

I had no problems with the update however I am not enjoying it because its like it doesn't exist at the moment. No in-game music because we have to wait for patches. And I updated the large file for Stardust, played the game completing levels and aiming to get the 10x multiplier (as I know thats a gold one) yet I do not receive any trophies.
Have I done something wrong, do I need to delete the save ile and start again or is this update for trophy support in Stardust just for NA only?

might be NA only. I have Stardust and I get trophies and everything. Im waiting for a few more games to get updates that will allow for trophies.

if you are checking your profile your trophies will not appear until you sync them or something. Have you tried going to the trophy icon in the XMB and then selecting stardust?

I downloaded it. it appeared to be doing everything right. installed and everything. then when it tried restarting with the update installed, it made the start up sound and had the wavy background and words "Sony Computer Entertainment" like always, but then the menu to sign in never showed. it just sat there showing the wavy background forever. After a while i flipped the switch in the back and restarted it. same thing happened. supposedly you can remove the HDD and reformat it to FAT32 with a pc, of coarse losing your data, but resurrecting your system. i tried to do it, but my HDD seems to be completely hosed. the computer wouldn't even recognize it as a hard drive, and it just made some terrible sounds that hard drives shouldn't make. took it to a computer place and it did the same for them. only thing i can do is get a new HDD. Sony agreed to fix it for free even though its out of warranty though, so i might as well get a free hard drive from them i guess. then i can buy a new, bigger one, and use the new 60gb one as a backup

Bamf, I also had the same problem for a second. The 3 Trophy I unlocked popped up in the top right corner when I unlocked them but when I looked at my profile it showed none of the Trophies. Like Joema said if you go out to the game icon and select the actual Tropy icon it will pop up saying synchronizing Trophies and they will show up in your profile after that. Hopefully Sony addresses that also in the 2.41 update.

I've played the game a few times now and should have some trophies. I've looked at the trophy icon in the xmb, it doesn't sync, it says no trophies. I looked at my profile and there are no trophies and I am still at level zero.
Must be for NA only?

Dear goodness, I am so tired of the whining for XMB. I didn't realize so many people want to hear the same songs they always listen to ALL THE TIME. God forbid you listen to something different!

bugz: no kidding. its a hard drive corruption somehow caused by the update. Sony only agreed to fix it for free after it became obvious that this problem was occurring to many people. when i first talked to them, they wanted to charge me $159. it wasn't til after they had pulled the update and i called them back that they said they'd fix it for free.

Well, to be fair they do have to protect themselves from chancers who break their machine and try to get Sony to pay for it.

Tanner on Stardust HD if you go to options, you can turn on custom soundtracks and listen to music off the HDD. It doesn't work off the XMB for some reason though.
