Infinity Ward Sticks With Activision, Clears Way For New Projects
The developer/publisher relationship can be a tricky one - just ask Bungie and Microsoft - but sometimes, it makes the most sense to stick together for another go-'round.
According to GameSpot, Infinity Ward has decided to re-sign with publishing partner, Activision. IW director of communications Robert Bowling made the simple announcement on the Iamfourzerotwo.com website- "we have decided to re-up on our contract with Activision publishing," which comes hot on the heels of a "recently negotiated deal." Now that the business end of things is done, Infinity Ward can more forward with their "future project" plus the "possibility of a unique new IP" that the team will have "complete control over." Bowling wasn't at liberty to reveal any details on either project, but after Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare dragged in millions of fans last year, there are many gamers out there who will be anxiously anticipating that news... We know 'cuz we're one of 'em.
The Call of Duty responsibility has fallen back to Treyarch, who appear to be making a solid run at Call of Duty: World at War, but everyone has been wondering: what will Infinity Ward do next? Well, stay tuned.

And then they get CoD4 and people are like, "cool." And then they partner with Blizzard and become multibillionaires and people finally realize who Activision is.
Pretty interesting story.
