Firmware Update 2.41 Available Now
If you downloaded firmware update 2.40 without any issues, you probably don't really care about the ongoing saga involving a few bricked systems due to a flaw in the update. It wasn't a widespread problem - Sony said they had a "limited" number of complaints - but it did severely affect a few unlucky users.
Ever since, those users (and the ones who missed the chance to download 2.40 before Sony yanked it from their servers) have been waiting for it to return. Well, it has, in the form of firmware 2.41, which is now available to download. Simply log on and you'll be prompted to snag 2.41, and yes, even if you successfully got 2.40, 2.41 does appear to be required. Thankfully, it's a relatively fast update, and it does indeed fix prior issues. Director of PlayStation Network Operations Eric Lempel made the following post over at the official PlayStation blog earlier:
"Hi, everyone. As many of you know, we released PS3 firmware update v2.40 last week, but had to take it offline temporarily because, for a limited number of users, the XMB wouldnt display after the update was installed. Weve been able to fix the problem, and Im happy to report that firmware update v2.41 will be released shortly.
We want to extend our apologies to the PlayStation community for any inconvenience. Now well be looking forward to seeing everyone online and racking up those trophies!"
Well, "shortly" basically means "now" in your case, dear reader. Like we said, 2.41 is up and ready to go, so nobody has to wait any longer for that in-game XMB and Trophy support! By the way, we had no problems with 2.40 and after downloading 2.41, we see no immediate discernible differences.

Anyone else having the same problem? I’ve seen some other people out there on the internet with the same problem, but it seems like the majority of people didn’t have problems with the 2.41 upgrade.
My console is a 60 GB model, bought Sep 2007. Maybe 2.41 just messes up certain models? If anyone else is having a similar problem, please speak up. If there’s enough people affected, maybe Sony will release another patch (God forbid! LOL)…
