Soul Calibur IV Game Install Optional?

We're starting to gather up some conflicting reports concerning the data install for the upcoming Soul Calibur IV. As of now, the question is simple: is that 2.85GB install optional or mandatory, and could it be possible that it's optional for certain territories?

According to the Videogaming247 blog, the "current UK Soul Calibur IV PS3 code is optional, not mandatory as is being reported by US sites." ...okay, so does this mean it's optional everywhere? We've been told by other sources that the install is mandatory, regardless of where you live; nigh-on 3GB of data is going to have to be stored to the HDD if you wish to play. Now, this is probably going to spark more debate on the subject - remember that petition against mandatory game installs? - but we still don't have all the facts, obviously. Ubisoft is going to have to clear this up because the different reports are starting to confuse us. For now, most are simply willing to accept the fact that it's mandatory, and let's face it, most of us have the space to spare.

But if you don't like the idea of the mandatory install, regardless of what happens with SCIV, you may want to sign that petition. We're not sure if it will do any good, but hey, at least you can add your name if you so desire.

If they need installs for a game its for a reason, without them the games would only get watered down

papaduke didn't say that games that don't have installs are watered down he just said that games that require them would be watered down without the installs. games handle loading differently i doubt you could have made mgs 4 as interesting without the installs. because the installs get rid of all load times for the game. until a new act comes into play.

Whats the big deal if the PS3 allows you to upgrade the HDD?

Because most people don't want to have to purchase a new harddrive simply because they own more than 10 games.

If installs are really necessary then fine but if they just make the devs lives easier then they should suck it up and make it work eith smaller installs.

I wish there was another alternative to reducing the loading times but if an install to the hdd reduces the loading times (as I hate long loading) then I'm all for it, but it should be optional for the player and not mandatory. Before the game starts there should be a screen explaining that the game requires an install to reduce loading times and then giving you the option to do so.
