disappointed-yes, unexpected-no. Like i was watching it on G4 and my heart skipped a beat but it recovered cause i have a feeling that sony is going to get the better end of the deal on this one. but if anything ff7 comes out to xbox than well xbox fanboys beware. I'm just wondering what you thought of their presentation, ben. I found it to be really cocky and nothing seemed like omg!. also lips equals singstar with ps3 support.

Well, I am one of those guys that just didn't want to believe that FINAL FANTASY would ever make its way on the Shitbox.

Now is the time to act. I have for long respected Sony's policy of "Not buying games" but now:

To hell with that policy, play Microsoft's fu**ing game! I expect something huge from Sony tomorrow. They have to do something!

my opinion is that i think exclusivity sucks from the perspective of a gamer, so i have no problem with ff13 coming for 360 too. it just means that more people will get a chance to play what will hopefully be a great game. the move sucks for sony, but oh well that's business. i think this move is really more for square's profit than anything. as long as the 360 version doesn't delay the ps3 version, i don't mind. if it does delay it, than i'll be pretty pissed, but honestly this game seems like it's still so far away it's not really even on my radar right now.

I do agree with you about how exculsivity only hinders the gamers. But my only problem with the ffxiii loosing its exclusivity is the message it sends to other rpg developers. I mean, i'm just afraid that that people won't buy the ps3 version which would result in fewer sales (hardware and software). This may then result into rpg developers shying away from the ps3. They've got enough problems using the ps3's engine and now they have to worry whether the ps3 is the best console to sell it on. Yes, i know that the 360 is dead in Japan. But, they could just release english versions on the 360 while japanese versions on th ps3, if they wanted to extend their reach and maybe more sales. Correct if I'm wrong but isn't this whats happening with eternal sonata? Only a Japanese version for the PS3. Anyway, most of these ideas are from an article i read, which i took to heart. I forgot the site though. RPG"something" was the site.

I said it a year ago and I'll say it again- there won't be any more third-party exclusives in due time. Not a one. The only "exclusive" games left will be made by first-party teams. I always expected FFXIII to go to the 360 and I'm actually surprised MGS4 didn't. If they actually make MGS5, though, I can assure you it will.

This being the case, I think it's only fair to compare first-party exclusives at this point. So...I still say Gran Turismo, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance, SOCOM, etc. still tops Microsoft's.

Ben, this is why i got a ps3 first. Their 1st party exclusives alwayss eems to be leaps and bounds over the MS. just my opinion though.

Up until now, it seemed like 360 was on some type of life support, but this really helped them out.

I honestly think it will still sell better on the ps3 though ( thats when and if people get off the new anti SE bandwagon ). The ps3 is selling more and more, people are coming over to the ps3 brand for other games and they might see this as a game that should be played on ps3, especially if it is multi disk for the 360 versions.

Not saying it will be multi disked, but hell, that one rpg was like 4 disk right?

thesuffering85:: exclusivity is exactly wat brings about healthy competition among the consoles. we need to see the best that each console has to offer and thts the job of the exclusives. after all i honestly don't think EA's next FIFA game is gonna show us wat the ps3 can really do even if the game MIGHT run at below 30fps. so i believe that exclusives for each console is actually a good thing.

i think its about time us fellas joined game school and develop some exclusive (J)RPGs for the PS3 ??? :))

i believe its out on the arcades in japann and doing pretty well. And because its in the arcades, i think it gets some time to stay there.

Think of it this way, when Tekken 5 came out, a lot of arcade owners were very unhappy that they put the game on ps2 so damn fast, it took away money from the coin ops.

I think its safe to say that game wont be out until early next year, but i could be very wrong

Square did release the news =\ it will indeed hold back the production of the US/EU versions, but since japan isn't getting the 360 version they get theirs for ps3 much much earlier, when they do the voice's for english is when they decided to develop the 360 version...so says their Blog on Kotaku.

I knew it. I'm not even gonna put my faith into these "exclusives" anymore, like Ben said...theres gonna be no more exclusives this generation besides the internal studios. Obviously Mario games will always be with Nintendo, Master Chief on 360, and PS3 gets yanno....the NEW STUFF lol...sorry I had to go fanboy a bit due to this horrible news.

ugh, yeah, I expect to hear nonstop trash talk from my FFXI friends who have 360s. Mind you, I have a 360 as well, so in the end exclusives means nothing to me, but FFXIII should have been Sony only, and would have helped drive sales much like Bioshock, Mass Effect, and many others do for the 360. Course, now the PS3 is without RPG exclusives, which historically since the PS1, it was the place to be for RPGs... I see many many of my friends about to be blocked and not spoken to over this, knowing their attitudes about the 360 and the PS3.

Sony still has more games coming out, but that really does hurt. Big time. To a lot of us MGS4 and FF13 were the reasons to get a PS3.

And why are the geeks on G4 so pro-360? When did it become cool to like Microsoft? That's one question that I just can't seem to answer.

Final Fantasy XIII Versus an "Action-RPG" where as Final Fantasy XIII is considered to be an RPG. I somehow doubt this will stay exclusive now that SE has admited they are in bed with Microsoft. I also expect now any news of a Final Fantasy VII remake would end up on the 360... Least the way SE is going with all these 360 games... Star Ocean and Infinite Undiscovery are still at this point 360 Only...

Just so everyone doesn't get carried away, what I said about GoeW2 is just a prediction and nothing more. PSXE is not confirming anything like that.

And besides, while I know Epic loves the 360, we DO have an example of that studio preferring the PS3: Unreal Tournament 3. Unless, of course, Microsoft paid for the entire GeoW franchise to be exclusive...they paid for the first Bioshock to be exclusive to the 360, but that's over now. Why shouldn't the GeoW timed exclusivity be over? Well, provided it IS "timed"...

This Ben character has a point... Plus, the way I see is that the producers see that X360 has an enormouse user-base... I mean it is decreasing by the day... but it is still huge... And what they want to do is make money, and I find nothing wrong with that... Back me up on this Ben, if I where to come to you at your job and tell you why you sold something to someone... what would you say? "It's profite for the business" Exactly, the only way to expand--make yourself as available as possible (I know, sounds wrong but bear with me here), the only way to make yourself available to a wider audience-- sell the product to ANYONE... It's as simple as that.

Personally i bought my PS3 for the RPG's that made Sony number one in the first place.

And to hear SE gave M$ FFXIII just hurts. One thing more that hurt is Fallout3 giving exclusive DLC to Xbox... that just hurts.

I personally don't care if GTA and decent crap games like that get the special attention from M$, but making one of the possibly best RPG's updates and improvments unavailable to PS3 owners is just wrong.

Interesting information I found out from PS3fanboy, they said that the 360 version will only come out in the states and not in Japan. Reason why they decided to go with the 360...install base. So...pretty much...they wanted more money cuz lately...they've been making some crappy games. Lol thats how I translate it :-P

That's pretty much what I saw on Sony's official PS3 forums... People worried that SE won't optimize the PS3... I think it was Ben who recently pointed out it always takes time to see the real potential of a game system... SE is sort of classically known for just that... Which is another reason I'm so angry about this. SE has always driven the Sony systems to the edge... I really do see this as leaving the question of, are PS3 owners going to suffer a weaker version, or are 360 owners going to have a better version than the PS3? I refuse to believe one or the other won't be the case.

Yeah I was also quite disappointed when I caught the first second of the trailer on G4's edition of E3. But like Sessler and everyone else said after the press conference was over, it's not entirely shocking. SE will make more money and I don't blame them if they want to do that. Hopefully at the very least the PS3 version will be far more superior than the 360 version.

@Odd Child, SE might have thought of the idea of bringing the game to MS w/o getting any money out of it. In fact, SE should pay MS to get the game on their console because the number of people that have an xbox360 will undoubtedly buy the game and make tons of more money. And if MS did pay out to get the game, kudos to them, it shows that they care for their consumers... in at least the gaming department, which Sony needs to improve upon more often. =)

Not to sound like a fanboy, but i really doubt that the fact that they paid billions of dollars for a game is not that they care about their constomers, but is that they want to make more money and sell more consels or at least not lose high consel sales. I mean think about it FFIII only on ps3 will drive ps3 sales, but on both platforms, it wouldn't really do anything, as of driving hardware sales for both consels. Again not trying to sound like a fanboy.

This is for the SONY loyalists. SONY owns a part of SquareEnix. Something as major as FFXIII going to the 360 SONY would have known about because they are major stock holders of SquareEnix. So any copy of the 360 version sold also helps SONY. Just remember that SONY gave Squaresoft no restriction in developing games when Squaresoft asked them for financial help when FF:the Spirits Within bombed at the box office. Don't think SONY didn't know this. It's business for all of these guys.

But, Sony needs to start thinking "Fight" Because all they do right now is hide like little bitches... Really, im not pissed off because of FFXIII going to X360, I can care less... But what next? SE could make up for this by giving the PS3 version not only uncompressed better audio, but be the only release with an optional Japanese audio track with subtitles (for us purists), uncompressed graphics, BluRay bonus content, and perhaps a few other things... But... Seeing as how the 360 always gets extra content, I should be careful what I hope for. Releasing it 1 yr before the 360 version would be nice, but we already know that won't happen.

You know, Shadow just said it: Xbox 360 owners will suddenly be very happy. But why? Every last one of them who consider themselves loyalists have hated on the FF franchise for years, saying things like "we don't need kiddy JRPGs; who cares?" And every single time I saw it, I knew their tune would shift about in an instant if FF ever came to a Microsoft console.

How have games like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey faired on the Xbox 360? Now ell, I wpould have thought. The Xbox360 market is chocked full of FPS games, so surely a release of these RPGs on the PS3 would increase their sales figures?

Here's the tricky stuff. FF13 has been being developed on the PS3 since it was announced, right? And the 360 stuff is probably a much more recent endeavor for the company. So, they're going backwards and porting the game to the 360. Either they're going to do what I see a lot of companies doing and shortchanging us in the way of content and cutting the Blu-Ray disc down, or they're going to have to use A WHOLE LOTTA DVD-9s just to make the game fit for the 360. And then there's a quality. Ports always lose quality because they're not using the same architecture.

Here's another thought, I think Microsoft is scared of losing the war, and are taking a viable alternative to putting forth the money at making another unreliable, generic system like the 360, and are instead throwing cash at game companies for exclusivity. The problem with this, as I see it, is that it's holding the video game back as an art form. My opinion, solidly, supports the PS3 because I think the PS3 has pushed the concept of "next generation" a whole lot further than anything Microsoft has done in their video gaming ventures. There's a lot more you can do with a PS3 machine than you could ever do with a 360 without having to buy a new system altogether. They're trying to ensure that people aren't going to float off to another system by getting as many games for the system as possible.

This console war has just begun, methinks. Heh.

yeah i total agree that sony is the one that is pushing this generation but I also give kudos to nintendo for expanding it and showing that gaming has evolved. talking about ff13 though, when i was watching it be announced i was like "damn it worse quality" but if you look at what the ign cover of the press conference square said that they'll be making it on the ps3 first and then porting it over to the theifs.

Sony has to be up to something to let this slide, though. As someone else said, yes, Sony does own 21% of Square-Enix. But I'm sure there was some money involved for SE to bring FF to the X360.

Honestly, Sony better be announcing FFVII tomorrow...otherwise I'll be pissed.

What a slap in the face from SE.

Like many others here I also went exclusively to PS3 for this game alone. Now that some moneythug have bought it up with monopoly money I have to say I am disappointing to the MAX.

I think the game will suffer of form of quality because of this move, like if GTA4 was made only for PS3 it would have been even better quality then it ended up to be. So I think our precious Final Fantasy will be shafted thanks to Xbox 360 hardware can't handle better.

I am happy that more people get to experience this but also at the same time its a stab in the back by a RPG developer I have fallowed since FF Tactics until now.

Hey guys! new guy here. I had quite alot of mixed feelings today with this MS announcement. I've been thinking about this and my conclusion is that as people have said, Sony will announce FFVII possibly. But what I think what would really kill the 360 buzz of FFXII would be Kingdom Hearts 3. Kingdom Hearts 3 fanbase is so big it would dominate FFXIII for the 360. =]

Just a pointer, Kindgom Hearts 3 is produced by Square Enix... Square Enix is the mother of Final Fantasy games... Final Fantasy games are more beloved than Kingdom Heart games... Any pointers here? Yea, Kingdom Hearts 3 has about a 99% chance of hitting X360... I hope MS just blows up... Just like randomly explodes into litle peices.. all of their HQs just go POOF...

and where did you get that info, cuz squeenix already said they are going to finish the ps3 version, release it in japan (where they will not be releasing ff13 on 360) and then develop the 360 version to release it simultaneously with the US/EU ps3 version of the game.

Only a little longer to wait for Sony's conference... I'm sure most of us will be watching or waiting to see if Sony is going to take this kind of thing lying down, or if they have some Nuclear Anti-360 Warhead up their sleeve, and will launch it.

Personally, I'd LMAO, if they said 'f*** this! RELEASE HOME NOW! Oh, and btw... We're getting Halo 4, Mass Effect 2, and Bioshock 2 exclusively to the PS3" ... hey, I can dream can't I? :P

How is this a bad thing?
More people get to play what will be a great game. I don't see this as a loss for PS3 owners, but a win for Final Fantasy fans. We still get to play FF13 on our PS3s, and our 360 friends can play too.
The only real 'losers' are the die-hard Nintendo fans, they are the only people who have ever lost the Final Fantasy franchise.

this news signals an end of an era for me... I have loved final fantasy VII psone to ff8 ff9 and ff10. 4 incredible rps that inspired me as a child..then i was dissapointed by terrible XII and then this crap for XIII...its time for me to buy a 360.

FF13 goes multiplatform is good news for Square fans and rpg fans.

PS3 first, 360 later. This is the opposite of what we've seen before. I'm betting, that both versions will show the potential of the systems. First, they will make it to the amazing level of the PS3, then, they will dumb it down to fit the 360's slightly lesser capabilities. Don't complain, imagine if this game went to Nintendo Wii! I was devastated when I learned that Dragon Quest was a Wii exclusive, but this is just another part of the biz. PS3 users ARE getting jrpgs. Valkryia Chronicles and Disgaea 3 to name some. Plus, I saw a flash of Eternal Sonata during Sony's 15 second trailer for E3. Which means, maybe, that US PS3 users will also get Eternal Sonata o_o I am a different type of fanboy...the JRPG fanboy, I no longer hold my fanboyism to one console or the other, but I will never go to the Wii side. For after buying and selling 2 Wii's, I know that that system is too lost when it comes to quality and graphics.
