E3 2008: Is Metal Gear Solid 4 For Xbox 360 "Inevitable?"

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

After yesterday's huge announcement that Final Fantasy XIII is no longer a PS3 exclusive, perhaps it's no surprise to hear that yet another third-party PS3 exclusive may find its way to the Xbox 360.

This won't be as big of a shock, considering that the PS3 has already benefited from the launch of this game, but it may help sell 360's in the future: it appears Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is 360-bound at some point. This is nothing more than a rumor right now, though (if it had been fact, they likely would've announced it yesterday along with the FFXIII unveiling), but we do have a few interesting tidbits of info. First, the MTV Multiplayer blog talks about how Microsoft is saying Sony has less and less exclusives, and when asked about MGS4, the reply was- "Thats a question for Konami." Furthermore, the Videogaming247 blog has heard from a "senior UK industry source" who says a 360 version of Konami's masterpiece is "inevitable."

"Theres only MGS left now: for a few months at least," said the source. "Its inevitable. Konami knows how many million theyd sell in the US alone. If FFXIII can make it to 360 when Sony owns nine percent of Square, Metal Gears a slam dunk."

Konami and Hideo Kojima have always said they simply can't put MGS4 on DVD discs, especially considering the fact it nearly filled the 50 gigs available on a Blu-Ray disc. On top of which, Kojima fans know he really doesn't like the 360, and has no intention of gimping his baby just to sell more copies. But perhaps we're beyond that, now; perhaps Konami is simply bending to Microsoft's will, as Square-Enix did. Or, perhaps they just think it's a savvy business move, like Square-Enix obviously thinks it is. Either way, none of this is confirmed right now, but we'll have to keep an eye on it. The big question now is, if they do another MGS, should we just assume it won't be exclusive to the PS3...?

if this hapends its bull seriuosly sony you got to get it together in this industry its filled with backstabers just cause money talks and i know believes in loyalty but comes with helping each out on each side so make shure u guys dont loose any esclusives and actually you go steals some games from 360 hu how about that get gears of war 2 or 3

Ok first of all this is getting freaking ridiculous first they get Grand theft auto, Devil May Cry, Soul Caliber and freaking Final Fantasy. Microsoft is on Billion dollar rampage taking over as many ps3 exclusive as they can, that is some BULL!!!! they need to be stop is there no honor in gaming anymore screw this I SWEAR if Metal Gear 4 ever go to XBOX ill personally find MR. Hey my friend, what it sounds like in this article is that you were pretty upset about Final Fantasy XIII going to the Xbox 360. Just because Square-Enix made that decision, doesn't mean that all of a sudden MGS4 will fly over to the Xbox. It's an exclusive. It will most likely remain an exclusive. Believe me, I am bummed out as well, and I felt just like this yesterday, but I surely don't see this happening.

Not going to happen. Perhaps a future Metal Gear game will appear on the 360, but not MGS4. It won't fit, Kojima doesn't like MS much, and MGS4 has too many nods to the PS3. Several jokes in MGS4 would have to be rewritten or changed completely, including new voice-over work, it would have to be altered severely to fit on DVD and the beginning part of act 4 (you know the part i'm talking about) may have legal issues to put onto the 360 if there was any legal agreements made about it at the time.

This rumor is far too illogical to be believed without firm proof.

NO WAY THIS IS HAPPENING! If u listen to the ingame podcast on the ipod inside of MGS4 they developers express how much they dont like MS. This will remain an exclusive.

Xboxfanboys just made up this rumor to make ps3 users think that they are losing exclusives, this is not the first time this rumor came up, remember when mgs4 came out? There was a rumor that mgs4 was going to 360, but it didn't happen.

Nono guys let's think here for a second... FF XIII was announced to be released to the X360 right? What do you think would happen? Rumors... more and more rumors... I doubt this is true, I HIGHLY doubt this is true, because all that is happening is people getting hyped up after yesterdays announcement that they "think" they know what's coming next... and whats more vulnrable than MGS4? Exactly, it is not real... just a follow-up hype of yesterdays announcement of FFXIII is all... Be logical :) Kojima would never even say "Xbox" to start with lol...

And not to mention... Kojima REALLY ripped on MS in the game... If you pay close attention to all the cutscenes, you will notice a few subliminal messages about how much he hates MS... For Example, he has Apple Computers set up everywhere, where did Microsoft Windows go? Trash. He also makes it 100% clear that MGS4 is a Playstation 3 only game--clearly states that in the installation lines if you read em... Just a few pointers :P

did you see the PS3 in the game and the PS3 controller in Snakes hands as he controls the Mk. II? I loved that! But, this wont happen. There are too many variables to come up with that would null any kind of rumor that states MGS4 would go to the 360. Konami actually has sense enough to keep their word about exclusive titles.

I dunno, man. Regardless of whether MGS4 goes to the 360 or not, Sony is gonna have to get in the game. I mean, hell, Sony has deep pockets too! At this point it looks like Sony has put of the cash for reliable hardware...but MS has put up the bucks for great software (ganking Sony exclusives). But, the bottom line is, people will take a chance on getting the RRoD if (they think) they can play the same games for 100 bucks cheaper. And every game that goes to both systems is going to be made for the least common denominator (360), so PS3 buyers end up with a box with lots of unrealized potential.

Honestly, at this point, I'm wondering if I didn't make the wrong decision going with the PS3 instead of the 360.

Too much reference to the Sony, and the Playstation systems within the game honestly. To have the game on the XBOX360 would be like promoting the PS3 and PSP, and telling XBOX owners their system is a piece of s*** when the all great line comes up from Otacon about the PS3 not needing disc swaps due to bluray... Not to mention the entire joke and dual ending of Psycho Mantis would be pointless.

Yeah... I can't see this going to the 360 without a motherload of changes. Not gonna happen I say.

I for one, would think that they should if they can. If that means more reward to Kojima, then good for him. I will still prefer my ultra-cool dual layered bluray disc over the unwieldy dvd library they would have to package for the 360.

Any nay sayers who think that the metal gear franchise is stuck to sony like glue, are foolish fanboys. You may love your shiny PS3, but you refuse to open your eyes. How many metal gears have been thought to be exclusive and then ported to other systems. Xbox, even the game cube got some of Kojimas "sony exclusive franchise"! I agree that blu ray is what this title should call home (especially when quality is concerned), but if there is a demand with a dollar sign at the end, Konami is still a business, not a friend to gamers.

no one said the MGS franchise is stuck to the PS. Just MGS4. Konami doesnt like the X box, and that alone could cause them to not make it for the 360. Kinda like ow valve didn't make Half life 2 for the PS3, instead, they got EA to do it. Te only difference here, is that Kojima wont let anyone else make a port of MGS4.

Sony really has to start fighting to keep some of their exclusive titles. Microsoft will keep throwing money around to get the exclusive games and DLC, and getting this early release bullcrap on every multiplatform game they can. I dont think MGS4 will be on 360, unless people want to buy 10 discs and a new hard drive for the install, but any future sony exclusives are at risk.

what the hell is the point of printing the same speculative article again and again? mgs4 for the 360 has been a "rumor" for ages with no solid evidence to support it. in fact, there is solid evidence against it.
so please, if you're going to write an article about mgs4 on the 360 at this point, wait for the announcement or something more compelling.

btw why X360 need bluray?

X360 DVD Disc only used 7GB. there still 1.5GB free :D
and x360 accept multiple disc just like PC and PS1 :D

but im sure M$ will releas blu-ray addon drive just like HD-DVD addon drive.
and it will be usable on pc too :D
