E3 2008: Developer Testimonials For PlayStation 3 Potential

As we all know, it usually takes developers some time before they're able to fully embrace one of Sony's new consoles. Such was the case with both the PS1 and PS2, and obviously, it has been the case with the new PlayStation 3. But during Sony's E3 press conference today, a number of big-name developers stepped up to declare that the dark days of developing on the PS3 are over.

A number of industry professionals from teams like Ubisoft, Bethesda, LucasArts, 2K Marin, EA/Tiburon, Treyarch and others spoke about a variety of reasons why the PS3 is such an impressive machine. Despite the slow start, the devs now acknowledge the huge power benefit, along with the fact that the Blu-Ray storage capacity is a big bonus for everyone. We can expect Fallout 3 from Bethesda, Far Cry 2 from Ubisoft, Bioshock from 2K Marin, Call of Duty: World at War from Treyarch, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed from LucasArts, and of course, the EA Sports lineup from Tiburon. With these testimonials, it becomes clearer to the PS3-owning public that Sony really has created a machine with loads of potential, and developers are starting to recognize that. There's no doubt that the future of the console is in capable hands...especially when the game creators understand it better.

It's one thing to hear from Sony about how powerful the PS3 is, but it's something else entirely to hear from third-party developers whose checks don't say "Sony" on them. This is exactly the kind of evidence that makes us wonder what the next 8 years will bring. Remember, Sony keeps saying the PS3 has a 10-year lifespan...

I think the guy behind MAG said no-one has even used 80% of the capabilities of the PS3 yet. Maybe it was someone else.
I am a bit annoyed about Bethesda giving the Xbox 360 all the updates for Fallout 3...

Yeah they really need to stop this exclusive update/dl content crap for games at least. It's going too far. Pretty soon every game that comes out on multiple consoles will have it's own unique style of play or story for that specific platform lol.

I completely agree. Bethesda did the same with Oblivion. Multiplat games should be equal amongst consoles; this is favourtism and alienates consumers.

i think that microsoft is just trying to save face cause they know they can't get as many exclusives as sony has and also it's all free.

HA! good f'n luck. As much as people buy his stuff...noone likes it...its that they have no choice really...or just would rather take the easy route. If Windows wasn't the only operating system that most people were aware of...people would have alot more different ones yanno? So its just a good thing we have choices besides the 360 :) Even tho I'd probably buy a 360 over Wii...sorry...Wii not very appealing at all to me :-\

mmm...
The choice we did have is being minimalized by lack of exclusive variation.
Competition is healthy for absolutely everything. Although this situation seems to come down to survival of the fittest.

i know sony have this thing about not paying for stuff like that, but if microsoft are doing it and getting all these exclusives/timed exclusives/DLC i think sony should think about the ps3 owners and start playing MS's game.

E3 has caused a lot of controversy this year then.
The whole games industry really has over the course of 2008 so far...

E3 has gone downhill since the last few years anyway.

yea thats not right, if they are going to make a game for all consels then they cant go give the downloadable content to another system. ITS FOR ALL SYSTEMS! They might as well make fallout 3 exclusive to xbox360, instead of doing this crap.

The PS3's incredible potential is effectively negated by the fact that so many of these games are being released for the 360 also. What's the point of having a supercomputer if all of your software is designed to run on a Commodore 64?
