E3 2008: Developer Testimonials For PlayStation 3 Potential
As we all know, it usually takes developers some time before they're able to fully embrace one of Sony's new consoles. Such was the case with both the PS1 and PS2, and obviously, it has been the case with the new PlayStation 3. But during Sony's E3 press conference today, a number of big-name developers stepped up to declare that the dark days of developing on the PS3 are over.
A number of industry professionals from teams like Ubisoft, Bethesda, LucasArts, 2K Marin, EA/Tiburon, Treyarch and others spoke about a variety of reasons why the PS3 is such an impressive machine. Despite the slow start, the devs now acknowledge the huge power benefit, along with the fact that the Blu-Ray storage capacity is a big bonus for everyone. We can expect Fallout 3 from Bethesda, Far Cry 2 from Ubisoft, Bioshock from 2K Marin, Call of Duty: World at War from Treyarch, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed from LucasArts, and of course, the EA Sports lineup from Tiburon. With these testimonials, it becomes clearer to the PS3-owning public that Sony really has created a machine with loads of potential, and developers are starting to recognize that. There's no doubt that the future of the console is in capable hands...especially when the game creators understand it better.
It's one thing to hear from Sony about how powerful the PS3 is, but it's something else entirely to hear from third-party developers whose checks don't say "Sony" on them. This is exactly the kind of evidence that makes us wonder what the next 8 years will bring. Remember, Sony keeps saying the PS3 has a 10-year lifespan...
