E3 2008: Sony Ain't Gonna Copy Off The Competition
Some pessimists will say that everyone steals from everyone in big business, but the optimists like to think that global corporations actually have real live thinkers on staff. Well, Sony basically tells us they've got plenty of those thinkers, and they're not about to steal any ideas from competitors.
See, after Microsoft revealed their Xbox Live avatars, they claimed it was a "fresher" approach than Sony's, but Sony fired back on Wednesday by saying they're not about to copy others. SCEA president Jack Tretton has been busy responding to journalists all week at E3, and here's what he had to say on the subject:
"I don't know enough about Microsofts avatars. I think we're going in a bit of a different direction with Home. We made a line in the sand and made a strategic decision on Home and that's where were going." (source- GameRush Entertainment)
In regards to those avatars, Tretton responded- "My understanding is that it's a more simplified vision. That may be enough for some and not enough for others. We are who we are. You have to be who you are. You can't backpedal down a road if it doesn't appear its going to plan. You have to be aware of what's not resounding with people. We've got a plan for PS3. I think the worst thing we could do is look at the competition and try and do what they're doing." Okay, that's kinda roundabout of an explanation, but we get the point. Sony isn't about to tear down their current blueprints just 'cuz one of their competitors makes a mere comment. They like their idea.

Really, everything that's claimed about MS in that regard is even more true of Apple. Let's face it Apple Computer Inc. v. Microsoft Corporation (1994) was just a huge attempt by Apple to steal total intellectual property rights on GUI Desktop design.
Both Apple and Microsoft are businesses, niether are good nor evil. This is life, not a Disney movie.

The only original thing microsoft ever did was with computers,(and that wasn't exactly original). Now they wait for an industry to prove itself and then they try it out.

The Home avatars are more realistic looking, instead of being a rip-off from the Wii's you can interact more with others.
