E3 2008: More Prologue Updates, But No GT5 Until 2010?

Depending on how you interpret this information, this is either good news or bad news.

Joystiq was able to corner Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi at E3, and of course, they wanted to know about anything GT-related. First off, he did confirm that the long-awaited Gran Turismo 4 Mobile for the PSP was still in the works (despite being in development for almost 4 years now), but it won't arrive until after Gran Turismo 5. Sadly, though, that day may be a long ways off; further than many of us had anticipated, in fact. Yamauchi said Polyphony is currently focusing a lot of its energy on expanding Gran Turismo 5: Prologue with more features, including extra cars and tracks. The final product - GT5 - may not even hit store shelves before 2010, ruling out the possibility of dominating the 2009 holiday season. There is a new update planned for Prologue "in the near future," but Yamauchi didn't provide specifics on that.

Now, here's how we see it- if GT5 wasn't going to come out until 2010 anyway, then great. Keep us satisfied with delicious little Prologue morsels from now until then; that's awesome. But if, for some bizarre reason, giving us updates for the demo means they're taking attention away from GT5, we're not interested in that. We'd rather get GT5 faster than wait longer and download new samples every now and then. Just our opinion. As soon as we can get more info on the subject, we'll throw it up, race fans.

I hope it makes it for 2009. Either way I'm pretty sure we won't be seeing a Gran Turismo 6 on PS3.

Look at how long GT5 is taking because of the tremendous detail. GT6 would probably take just as long. Sure the engine would be in place but they would want to update it. Then everything else would probably be built from scratch. I have a feeling they would just start working on their PS4 engine.

This doesn't even matter if GT5 is good enough though.

2010? I realize they are huge perfectionist but come on. This game has been in development since GT4 came out. GT5:P is good and all but you are right, if GT5:P is taking time away from GT5 then stop working on it and work on GT5.

But GT5:Prologue is a taste of what's to come on the full version. So they are basically testing out how people will react on things by releasing it on Prologue first, I don't think they are taking away any focus from the full version.

I see it as a test course like you do with real cars, it must be tested a lot before it is ready to be sold to the public.

I didn't even really care for GT5:P. I mean, yeah it looks great but where is all the car customization like in Forza 2? I don't want to just continually race factory tuned cars I want to be able to customize them with after market engines, suspensions, and body kits. I hope that is coming in GT5 and if so they really need to forget Prologue and get to finishing up the final product and getting it out the door. Gran Turismo was always my favorite racing game until those features disappeared.

Of course it's coming in GT5. The customization and realism in GT4 outstrips what's in Forza, for crying out loud. :)

Then they definitely need to forget the Prologue crap and get to the real thing. I want my customization! =)

Yea, I did not bother with Prologue... 1) I don't have that money to spend on demos... 2) I want to be as excited as possible for GT5 :)

In my opinion Prologue was a waste of money, I should have waited for the final product!

Glad they will still be supporting GT5P, considering many are still waiting to hear about ingame voice chat, private matches, and hopefully maybe we can get custom soundtracks now that we have the ability to make use of it. Really would love to fill it with my Initial D soundtracks.

On a side note, not GT5P related, but racing game fans might care to know... According to sixthaxis, Wipeout HD is still in the works, and SCEE doesn't know when it'll be released... Figures... Typical delays with Sony, nothing new there. Maybe we'll see it in 2011 (if we're lucky)

Here's the link on Wipeout HD.

if it wasnt for the prologue crap as you put it, GT5 could be crap.. or really late because they didnt have beta testers like the people who brought the Prologue, because that what we are.. we just paid for the privilege thats all.

I dont mind.. completed GT5p, and now waiting for the new stuff.

best 'demo' ive ever played lol..

cheers for the link Zap... oh how i wish the forums were back!! :(

Only exciting racing games are go-cart racers. And even those suck a lot of times.

Even Burnout Paradise was boring.

You might want to remind yourself that much of what you say is, in fact, an opinion...

Most gamers won't just dismiss all racers as "boring."

I love GT5p and am glad they are supporting it further. They can release updates with new bits and bobs and see how popular they are.

Delay for GT5 just means I don't have to find £40 for it this year :D

I think they should concentrate on GT5, especially on weather effects and damage modeling.

Im alright, i have GT5Prologue, i play it alot, especially online. Its a great game and by no means a "demo". Worth every penny. It looks and plays better than Forza and the only thing Forza has over GT5P is tacky body kits and lame stickers. Everything else is tune-able depending on which race you enter.

Another reason why its good to play Prologue is because all of us who do and will play this game consistently until the Full GT5 is released will be of quite higher skill, because especially in GT, practice does in fact make perfect. So its always good to practice on GT and in playing we also do our part to make GT5P better, especially us players who are on the Sony forums. The Developers keep an eye out....

Sucks about GT5 but i have Prologue which makes me moore than good enough. Im a grateful guy.

You obviously didn't touch Burnout Paradise if you "got bored" of playing it. BP is one of my favorite games on the PS3. The replay value is huge on this game.
Regardless, I for one refuse to buy Proluge as well in anticipation of the complete GT5. It better be worth the wait thats all I have to say! :)
