NPD June 08: PS3 Outsells Xbox 360 By Landslide
With the launch of Metal Gear Solid 4, many have wondered just how much of an impact would one game for the PlayStation 3. To date, even though Sony's PS3 has consistently outsold the Xbox 360 since January, none of the big AAA games (GTAIV, GT5 Prologue) have created any notable pop in the sales of the PS3. Not even GTAIV was able to create a spike in the X360's sales. Well, the same cannot be said of Metal Gear Solid 4, as Kojima's masterpiece helped drive sales of over 405k PlayStation 3 consoles in June.
See Full ImageThe PlayStation 3's sales nearly double that of the Xbox 360s, which trails far behind at 220k units sold. The Nintendo Wii continues to attract gamers of all ages, as it went on to sell 667k consoles. As far as handhelds go, the Nintendo DS sold a staggering 783k portables, and the PSP took in a very respectable 337k sold.
At the rate the PlayStation 3 is going, it's looking to topple the Xbox 360 as the best selling next-gen console in less than a year - assuming the PS3 continues to outsell. Sales of the Xbox 360 have slowed down worldwide, as the PS3 has overtaken the Microsoft console in Europe, among other PAL regions, has a dominant lead in Japan, and has endured a six month momentum boost in sales here in the states.
Nintendo DS: 783k
Nintend Wii: 667k
PlayStation 3: 405.5k
Sony PSP: 337k
Xbox 360: 220k
PlayStation 2: 189k

Last I checked, I believe there is about a 4.5 million unit difference between the PS3 and X360.

Anyways, good to hear that Sony is doing well. 360 sales may spike up again later this year because of GeoW2 and F2. I know I'll be getting one, if I have the money that is...

You do realize the spike came from MGS4 (of course you do)? I don't think it's going to last more than 2 months.
Next month we'll see a large decrease, and the month after that we'll see the PS3 outsell the 360 bye 100k, if that. It's gonna take more than 100k a month.
Gears 2 looks amazing, and with that new Halo game being announced...
I can see LBP becoming the biggest smash hit of this generation and generating huge buzz for the PS3, and in the process become a part of pop-culture, but even then, it's gonna take more than 12 months.

Surely this is the begininng of the end for the x360? Yeah they have some big games coming out but so does the ps3 and psp.

ms dont have much going for them,ive seen gears 2 trailers n i think it should be called gears 1.5. Another halo? bungie works to free itself from ms n their next project is halo??? talk about reaching your creative celing

ms said they were the reason why bungie stopped the 'mysterious' countdown on bungie's site n yes they confirmed it was an annoucement for another halo game.look things up before throwing accusations.As for gears,same script different cast,throw in a little dust n BAM! sequel,in my opinion of course.

Don said that the announcement was part of their conference ,but they cut it out,their excuse being that the game deserved more than just an announcement at e3 n they wanted to maintain their ' conference time '.
