Midway Planned MK8, Dumped Idea For MK vs. DC Unvierse
The idea of combining the Mortal Kombat realm with the DC universe may be controversial, but wouldn't you be interested to know about what would've been Midway's plan for the legendary game franchise?
Kotaku dug up something from last year's Midway Gamers Day event that may intrigue those of you who have been hoping for another true MK installment. According to series co-creator Ed Boon, there once was a Mortal Kombat 8 in the works; it was "very dark, serious and gritty," and was described as a "back-to-basics project" that was, believe it or not, inspired by Epic's excellent third-person shooter, Gears of War. However, they scrapped this idea and decided to go with Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe instead, which must prove itself before legions of MK and DC fans. The good news is, we've had time to go hands-on with the game at E3, and we come away satisfied with our sampling. In fact, as Arnold said, this "may be the best one we've had in over a decade."
See? The MK franchise is far from dead, and even if it takes some rejuvenating life force from superheroes, the fans should still give the newest installation a try. Besides, isn't just about everyone on earth just itching to pit Batman against Scorpion?
