PlayTV Set For September In UK
U.S. gamers may already have the downloadable movie service on the PlayStation Store, but European gamers are getting the edge with PlayTV later this fall. Revealed earlier, this digital video recorder add-on is guaranteed to generate more interest in the PS3.
And now, SCEE president David Reeves has confirmed to Eurogamer that PlayTV will launch in Europe "from September to December," beginning with a September 10 date for the UK. Furthermore, it seems we can add another little useful nugget of information: as soon as PS3 owners heard about PlayTV, they wondered if they'd be able to record TV while playing a game. And as it turns out: yes, you will. All you have to have is the latest firmware update - 2.41 - and you're good to go. "It was very difficult for some of the tech guys but we had to include it in the firmware upgrade, 2.41, but it's done now," said Reeves. Hence, if you want to record your favorite show while playing some Resistance 2 this winter, feel free!
PlayTV will retail for a price of EUR$99 when it launches, and both Australia and New Zealand can expect the service to arrive in "January or February" of 2009. As for the U.S...well, we've still got the better Store inventory!

Now, using my Singapore 60GB Playstation 3 I still log into my US account, and have all the advantageous that US users have. Additionally, I opened/registered a Singapore PSN account too. The SG store is so poor that I never use it. When I logged into my US account yesterday I had the PSN Video store up and running and I was downloading movies. I don't know if Singaporeans even know of this feature as they are all logging into the local store which is really pretty sad with a poor inventory...
I will opening up a EU account soon, so I have the best of all worlds, that is the only way to go I would say. It is amusing that territories outside the US have not tried to block access to the US account. With my US account I don't have to abide by the Singaporean censorship laws...
Maybe I can use the same trick for PlayTV?

The hidden problem here is that it's not guaranteed to work out of the box as it relies of Freeview broadcast. In the UK the "Switch Over" to Digital Television is happening over the next few years. So, many regions in the UK may have to wait until 2010 before this can be actually used.
