God Of War III Gameplay Looks Close To Beowulf Movie?

If you haven't had the chance yet, we suggest taking the time to check it out before continuing with this news update. Go watch the God of War III debut trailer that was shown to the world for the first time during Sony's E3 press conference. ...done watching? Okay, now while it's obviously not gameplay, recent evidence says it ain't far off.

According to GameSpot's latest HotSpot podcast, SCEA's upcoming action extravaganza is lookin' pretty damn good. So good, in fact, that "the level of realism as far as the graphics go" appears "very close" to what we see in this CG trailer. This is taken from a number of inside sources, and it's even said that GoWIII actually looks a lot like "Beowulf," the CGI blockbuster movie from last year. Now, we don't know about you, but we find this news to be awfully encouraging. Of course, we've heard similar hype before, although we'd like to think this information comes from fairly reliable sources, even if we can't confirm them ourselves. There's certainly no doubt that God of War has pushed the visual envelope with every installment, be it on the PS2 or PSP, but now it's time to push the envelope on a much more advanced machine. It's our opinion that SCEA Santa Monica is up to the challenge, but only time will tell...

By the way, God of War III still holds an early March release date according to GameStop, but it may just be a placeholder date that doesn't mean anything. As far as Sony is concerned, it's still officially "TBA." We'll bring you more GoWIII news as soon as it becomes available.

I really hope it ends up looking that good, but I wouldn't get excited yet. Remember the Killzone 2 trailer we saw a few years ago? still no game yet. If we can draw conclusions from that example, then the game will either not look so good, or take years to come out.

im not trying to build up hopes but think of it this way, that trailer was announced back a few years ago. This was before first party devs had a chance to share their knowledge with one another.

Killzone is looking damn great and there is still time to shove some extra polish on it. In one of the interviews with some of the guys from the killzone makers, they did say that helpful knowledge was pass on between first party studios like insomniac, i believe i saw this on the ps blog.

I do think that GoW3 can look extremely great, but Beowulf might be a bit of an exageration. if it isnt, then holy sh**, were in for a doozy

I'm still marveling at how fast the site has grown. It seems like yesterday there where only a handful of people commenting but now when i read an article i actually have to scroll down a while to see all the posts.

i think i have some, but no idea where i see my total and what they do?

as for GOWIII... i cant wait! i kinda hope its not online too.

and as for Killzone, imo the gameplay now looks better than that awesome first trailer.

This game really is testicle tingler. I was so used to seeing a little blocky Kratos after playing with him on PSP, and now you can see every detail in.. just about everything there is to see. Even if this is a CG, i'm soooo excited.

the graphic will be like beowulf movie?

i doubt that, but im sure the gameplay will good.
at minimal, the gameplay will as good as GoW2.

Im sorry people but in my opinion this game is probably going to look good but definitely not as good as Beowulf. Im not really excited for this game because they already have 3 god of war games which I have and it gets tiring after hours of doing the same things. Maybe the boss battles will be good though. This will not beat Gears of War 2 though which will most likely be game of the year 2008!

Something tells me that the gameplay graphics in GOW3 will be the "Premier Holy-Shit" package that it is supposed to be, remember how awesome GOW2 was on the PS2? Just imagine it on the preverbial Chuck Norris that is the PS3.

It will look better than all the games that are out now, but i agree with one of the posters up at the top. It is simply too much of an exaggeration to say GOWIII will be having graphics that rival Beowulf. Think about it. The power that goes into rendering a Hollywood CG film is a lot. You actually have a few hundred PCs participating in the rendering process and it takes months to generate frames used for the whole movie. A single PS3 can equal that? Highly unlikely.

Interesting..

I only ask as i went in to my main page cp, saw points.. Noticed that someone had ripped ten demigod points from these witherd sealion blooded paws (probably for when i had a go at that kid, lol).. And i just wonderd why we have points. Are they as good as sacred forum points?

Anyway im not using this space as a vehicle to question demigod points..

It won't, since Beowulf is unreacheable by any consoles this generation. It is impossible even for the best PCs nowadays. Beowulf realtime graphics, we will expect it maybe in PS5 and Xbox 1440.
