2K Games: Bioshock PS3 To Look Identical To 360 Version

PlayStation 3 owners are looking forward to Bioshock later this year - and if you're not, you should be - but there are a few details that need to be cleared up.

These come courtesy of developer 2K Games and their E3 presentation of the highly anticipated atmospheric shooter, once exclusive to the Xbox 360. According to VideoGamer, 2K has stated that, despite all claims to the contrary, the PS3 version will not boast updated or enhanced visuals. Basically, they're simply striving to "match the quality" of the 360 version, as senior producer Melissa Miller said during the E3 presentation:

"We're looking to match the quality of the original version. We want to make sure that the water is just as great, and I think you can see from the demonstration, that it looks no different from the 360 version."

In addition, Miller tells us Bioshock PS3 is being "optimized" by Dark Sector developer Digital Extremes, and in the end both the 360 and PS3 versions will look identical. But that shouldn't remain the focal point for PS3 owners, because not only will all the available downloadable content and patches be included in the PS3 version, but 2K also revealed at E3 that the PS3 version will get its own exclusive downloadable content, in the form of "Challenge Rooms." These are "set outside the main story" but still within Rapture, but that's all we know about them for now. Oh, and if you've already played the game but want another go at it on the PS3, you may want to test your finely honed veteran skills with the new crazy hard difficulty mode, Survivor.

So despite what you may have heard, the PS3 version of Bioshock won't be graphically superior to the 360 or PC versions. However, it will most certainly have more stuff. Nothin' wrong with that.

It's more difficult to build up than to cut down.

I just read a whole article on PSU talking about how Bioshock's anti aliasing problems are completely gone, and that the game looks so much more crisp that it makes the 360's version almost look bad.

They even point out the fire at the beginning of the game, saying that it felt a lot more real.

So who's lying?

There is the possibility that neither is lying, but one is stretching the truth. PSU may be closer to a fansite than they want everyone to believe, first of all. And secondly, there may be very small technical upgrades 2K worked to implement into the PS3 version, but they didn't believe they were worth mentioning. Maybe because the vast majority of gamers wouldn't notice the difference.

But it's hard to say.

I would go with PSU because if you think about it, 2K does not want to start a fuss and all that other good stuff saying the PS3 version will look better. But, then agian... PSU is more of a fansite I agree.... I DUNNO which to believe to be honest -.-

Doesn't really matter what they do, I'm going to buy this. My pc aged quite quickly as most computers do, so I cannot wait for this to release, especially with extra and exclusive content!

Another game that goes on my "Must Have" list with Resistance 2, Lilbigplanet, Rock Band 2 and others. I really hope santa exists because I can't afford all of these games!

I am still a little disappointed that they will be happy with matching the 360 version which I will admit did look nice.

I am always a little concerned about developers who aren't trying to push the envelope with everything they do and the PS3 release of Bioshock would have been a great chance to show the gaming world what they can achieve now compared to when they released it on the 360.

maybe they're just trying to avoid contreversy, and the PS3 version will look graphically superior?

I can't see anyone over at 2K complaining about any silly "controversy" regarding enhanced graphics for the PS3. Everyone already knows that because of the built-in Blu-Ray tech, the PS3 has superior graphical capabilities. IMHO, the 360 isn't in any way lacking in graphical capabilities anyway. The difference is so marginal that I've never seen comparisons that made me sad I only have a "whimpy" 360.

Besides... PS3 doesn't have Gears (neener, neener) ;)
