E3 2008: Bionic Commando Impressions
Capcom's room was full of solid action titles, be it Street Fighter, Resident Evil, or even Bionic Commando. We went one on one with the all new 3D Bionic Commando game and what we saw was very nice, but not perfect. This Bionic Commando game takes place 10 years after the events of the original. The world around you is in ruins, everything is just one giant pool of rubble.Your chaotic world is huge though, and so the level of exploration is pretty solid. There's a lot to explore in Bionic Commando, and much of that exploration will be done using your grappling hook. Our first complaint comes with the use of the grappling hook, as controlling it doesn't feel very intuitive. Grappling and swinging will take some time getting used to, especially since your timing has to be extremely precise.
On the other hand, the shooting mechanics in the game feel really good and are easy to adjust to. We also noticed that the game engine was running quite smoothly. On top of the framerate being smooth, the game's graphics look really nice, overall. So far, things are looking good for Bionic Commando. We're hoping to see GRIN fix the swinging mechanics by creating a larger window of opportunity for timing actions.
Look for Bionic Commando to launch later in the Fall .
