E3 2008: Bionic Commando Rearmed Impressions
Side by side to the Bionic Commando next-gen game was Bionic Commando Rearmed, the remake of the NES original. We've had pleasant experiences with Capcom's other downloadable games and remakes, and Bionic Commando Rearmed is no different. The remake is faithful to the original classic in gameplay, right down to the frustrating difficulty and even controls.Swinging around isn't exactly done like it was in Super Metroid, as your grappling hook will only allow you to hang or climb onto another platform. In order to jump over obstacles, you'll need a running start and aim your hook accordingly - this can be quite a chore for those used to current games. The 2D frustration, being limited to what you can do in order to avoid getting hit, is still very prevalent here. You have no jump button, so you'll have to learn how to use your grappling hook with lightning fast reflexes.
Once you get used to the game and its old-school controls, you quickly realize how much fun this remake is. Old-school fans will absolutely love the stunning HD visuals that have been put together for this game, as the screen oozes with flawless picture quality and gorgeous texture work.
For $10, Capcom continues to bring yet another solid downloadable experience to the PlayStation 3. Fans of the original, or fans of old-school games should love Bionic Commando Rearmed.
