Online Petition For David Hayter To Write MGS Movie Script
Sony Pictures and Konami are in the process of making a Metal Gear Solid movie, which should excite many a MGS fan. Despite the terrible track record of movies inspired by video games, we believe that with the right crew, we could get a damn fine film. But some avid followers of the legendary franchise believe this can't happen without one key member of the series: David Hayter.
Despite recent news that Hayter would be penning the screenplay, as indicated by a recent IMDb listing, it now seems as if Sony Pictures and Konami want to take more control of the proceedings. Hayter has some impressive writing credits already - he produced scripts for "X-Men," "The Scorpion King," and next year's guaranteed action smash, "Watchmen" - so why shouldn't he handle MGS? The voice of Snake should certainly be involved in some respect, and due to Hayter's talent as a writer, one would hope he would deliver what the fans want: a great goddamn script. There's always the possibility that Hayter will indeed assume the role of script writer for the movie, but to insure that happens, you can play your part.
Here's an online petition you can sign that simply asks the corporate bigwigs to let the right man for the job write the screenplay. We're relatively certain it's not so easy as all that (complications in Hollywood are common, yes?), but it's better than standing by and doing nothing. Sign away, if you agree.
