God Of War Movie Takes Another Step

It was several years ago when Universal Studios nailed down the rights to a God of War movie, but we haven't heard much about it since. However, there's finally some movement in this area, which may or may not have anything to do with the impending God of War III for the PlayStation 3.

According to WorthPlaying, the movie now has a scriptwriter and a producer, which is a big step in the right direction. David Self will handle the script, and he's known for "Road to Perdition," while Brett Ratner, responsible for the "Rush Hour" and "X-Men" movies, will be the producer. We still don't have a date for the movie's release, but we'd love to just say "TBA 2009," although that might be a tad optimistic at this rate. Then again, considering the fact that GoWIII might launch before the first quarter of next year is over, perhaps it's more realistic than optimistic... The course of movie production can be a long and complicated one, especially when it comes to a film that strives to be an action extravaganza. It takes time to push the envelope, ya know.

Of course, it takes a lot less time to produce garbage, which is how most movies based on video games end up. It'd be a damn shame to have that happen to a "God of War" movie; we're talking about some of the finest titles in history, here. And by the way, which actor would make for a good Kratos...? That role is essential.

I think Vin Diesel would make a pretty good Kratos.

It's a shame Hollywood is losing the ball somewhat. Whilst Dark Knight proves you can still make a good film, as this generation and the next "next generation" video games will prove... Hollywood is finding it difficult to keep up. They are getting their ideas from the games industry... Bad implimentations of MGS4 and GoWIII will cheapen and tarnish the video game efforts made...

I hope this is at least a watchable movie, none of that doa horror. And as for actor i would say chuck norris ftw. lol jking, but really i think that vin diesel would be great, cause he's done that anger issue role before. But my top pick is for a intense cgi kratos, i think that would do better. Also I just don't see how anyone can tackle something like this.

lol, and a completely toned muscular body, then a angry war torn voice, and finally the know how to fight with two hand-blades on chains. Other than that you'd be fine.

Jason Statham, though he is my favorite action-star, lacks the hulking brutish presence for the role. But he has the passion and physical prowess. Vin Diesel is too dopey in my opinion, and sucks at choreography, but is highly probably canidate, nonetheless. Can't think of anyone who would really capture Krato's really well...

I would think a good actor would be Gerard Butler, I mean he kicked ass in 300, and has experience with greek history. Trim the beard a little bit, add the tattos, and give him 2 blades. Jason Statham is...too english and I don't think he can create the anger that is Kratos.

I think the guy that plays as Kratos on those X-Play skits lol. No but I'd have to agree with Aftab about Diesel altho I hate him more lol. Should be interesting to see how it's all put together...

Bret Ratner sucks...did anyone say X-Men 3. This as a film adaption is just wrong, but by the powers that are out of my control, if this absolutely had to be made...I would put my vote behind Gerard Butler as Kratos...

Also, Vin Diesel is a little bitch...why would you want the guy from the Pacifier to play a brut...come on people think...

To anyone who thinks there's no point in making a movie out of a game. Game's these days tell great stories, and movies tell stories. But these 2 mediums tell stories in very different ways.
So, with a GoW movie or a MGS Movie we'll get to see a great story in another way. Also, who says it'll be the same story that's told in the games? Final Fantasy Spirits Within had an original story.

God of War and Metal Gear are 2 franchises that don't need a movie. They tell an awesome story through video games, I can't think of many games with good stories but those 2 are on the top portion of that small list.

Altho, if they made God of War like 300...that'd be baaaaaaaaadass!

djimon hounsou would have to gain more muscles or something. he just doesn't seem big enough. Vid diesel if you think about him in pitch black might work, but his head might be too big, and he's too famous. Gerard butler of 300 fame would be great though i don't know if he could pull of a bald head, i mean look at the dude that played on hitma, he looked gay. then we have all these wrestlers that could fit the bill, but how's their acting? But to be honest, kratos didn't exactly have a huge range of emotion, did he?

oh yeah, jason statham? are you kidding me? main reason i have not seen that king movie he starred in. his acting skills are B-movie material
