Star Trek Online Boldly Goes Console
In days past - days that aren't too far in the past, actually - most console owners ignored the announcement of a new MMO. But this new generation has seen all gamers embrace the Internet, which means times are changing. Remember M.A.G from Sony's E3 press conference?
And as further evidence, Cryptic has officially confirmed that their new project, Star Trek Online, is being developed for both next-gen consoles and the PC. Here's the announcement from their official site:
"Powered by the Cryptic Engine, Star Trek Online will be developed for both console and PC formats. With customizable ships and characters from the Klingon Empire and United Federation of Planets, ground, space and shipboard gameplay and unique options for player-generated content set in the Star Trek universe, Star Trek Online is the MMOG that allows you to boldly go where no one has gone before!"
If you peruse the site, you can check out some early media for the game and gather in a few more details. One interesting little tidbit is that they'll be unveiling the first gameplay footage of the game on August 10 at the Official Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas. So if you're a big-time Trekkie and you're planning on attending, you'll be the first to see Star Trek Online...that's only fitting, yes? We'll bring you more on STO when it becomes available.
