Mortal Kombat Co-Creator Wants More Fighter Crossovers
Midway decided to bring two great worlds of superheros together with their new project, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, and perhaps surprisingly, early previews are pointing towards a very promising fighting game. But hey, if MK co-creator Ed Boon has his way, this is only the beginning...
The MTV Multiplayer blog sat down with one of the men behind the MK scenes, and he stated that adding in the DC realm is just a first step. He'd love to be able to work in other characters from other franchises, including Street Fighter and Tekken, but that ambition may rely solely on the success of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. The possibilities seem limitless, and old-school fighting fans are probably salivating at the thought...aren't you? Here's what Boon had to say about an idea that he sees as "cool as hell:"
"In a perfect world, to me, I still think it would be cool as hell to see Ryu from 'Street Fighter' and Scorpion from Mortal Kombat. I just think it would be cool. To me, 'Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter vs. Tekken vs. Virtua Fighter' would be the coolest in the world. The reality is you’re going to have [the other development teams] on the other side of the world. So, who makes it? Who does what? It would be awesome. And who knows what they’re gonna say if this is big."
We're already seeing a little crossover with this week's Soul Calibur IV ("Star Wars" characters are involved), but obviously, Boon is talking about the ultimate blending of all the action heroes we've come to know and love over the years. Provided MK vs. DC turns out good, why not give it a try?
