Rock Band To Receive Sky-High Price Tag In Australia?
Some U.S. gamers were complaining about the price of the Rock Band bundle when it released in November of last year, but obviously, it didn't faze them much. The popular game has already sold over 3.5 million copies, and it has yet to release in Australia. But if these numbers are correct, perhaps the units sold statistic won't rise very much...
The package costs us $170, but that's peanuts compared to what the gamers down under may have to pay. First of all, Rock Band has already been delayed in Australia, and won't even become available until October. But on top of that, according to Aussie gaming site Vooks, an "anonymous tipster" has found the pricing for Rock Band when it finally arrives. The game is coming for the PS3, Xbox 360, PS2 and Wii (just like everywhere else), but despite the almost identical currency conversion between the U.S. and Australia, gamers will have to pay 3 times as much. The Accessories Pack will go for AU$269.95, the drums will go for AU$159.95, the wireless guitar will retail for AU$99.95, and the game by itself will have a price tag of $99.95 for the Wii and PS2 versions and $119.95 for the PS3 and 360 versions.
All told, it's going to cost between AU$366 and AU$388 to obtain the same package it costs us $170 to own. So after nearly a year delay, the prices seem to be out of control, provided this information is accurate...will Aussie music fans just accept it and plunk down the cash? That could be a difficult idea to swallow.
