EA Releases Def Jam Details
Old-school hip-hop fans remember the West Coast/East Coast rivalry that resulted in several tragedies back in the '90s, and the rivalry hasn't quite dissipated. So if you ever wanted to know who'd win in an up-close-and-personal fisticuffs tournament, the Def Jam games are just the ticket.
Last year, EA and Def Jam Enterprises announced the franchise would be heading into the next generation, and today, they finally made it official. The first details regarding the game have been unveiled, including the title, platforms, and estimated release date.
It's called Def Jam: Icon, which is currently in development at EA Chicago (responsible for the Fight Night franchise), and it should be available for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 in March 2007. There was no indication of any current-generation releases. The latest installment should maintain the series' attitude-laden style, while also utilizing the environment during battle.
"We are completely innovating the role of the environments in the games, moving from the typical lifeless arenas the hip-hop celebrities are fighting in to environments that play an instrumental part in the fight where they will react to the music and interact with both characters like a third fighter," said Kudo Tsunoda, general manager of EA Chicago.
However, EA has yet to unveil the game's celebrity cast, and the only artists mentioned thus far are Ludacris, T.I., and Big Boi. When more information comes to light on Def Jam: Icon, we'll be sure to let you know.
