Firmware 2.42 Up For PS3, Trophies Now Loading Faster?

So the latest firmware update doesn't need a long-running news saga to accompany its arrival, but it's probably worth mentioning. We swore to keep PlayStation 3 owners apprised of any and all PS3 news, and this certainly qualifies.

Firmware update 2.40 (or 2.41, depending on when you nabbed it) delivered trophies along with the fancy new in-game XMB, and now, update 2.42 is currently available and waiting for you to download. The official word from Sony, as revealed at the official PlayStation blog, is that it's just another stability update designed to "improve the playback quality of some PlayStation 3 and PlayStation format software." But some users are also starting to notice another little side benefit with 2.42: it seems the Trophies are loading faster. This hearkens back to 2.40, because after downloading, we could've sworn certain games were booting up faster. Top Spin 3 for example, seemed to load almost twice as fast, and we refuse to believe it was just our imaginations... Anyway, 2.42 apparently increases the speed of the machine as well, if only in a more specified area.

These minor updates aren't about to secure huge headlines or gain a significant amount of attention, but each and every one is supposed to increase the overall appeal and quality of the PS3 in some way. And we ain't got no problem with that.

I use the English language. Just because nobody else can do it these days doesn't mean I should ignore certain words. ;)

hey what exactly does "improve the playback quality of some PlayStation 3 and PlayStation format software" mean. like i'm not sure what the word playback means in this sentence. Does it mean loading faster, works better, looks cleaner? I'm confused, can anyone help? :(

I think it has to do with how smoothly the games play

I noticed this time that my GT5 Prologue is much smoother... I don't seems to be getting much tearing during playback like I used too...

It was funny as soon as I booted up my fresh new copy of Soul Calibur 4 the update prompted. Shows you how pro active Sony really is.

Faster loading trophy's, huh. Well don't actually have any trophies yet, but if it improves support for games that's always good.

Some of us actually have all of them....17. Of course the only game with them is SSHD. Unless Eden came out today, then its time to be a trophy whore again.

I have 11 and I believe Luan does also. I played the demo for Pixel Junk Eden and it reminded me alot of Flow. A game that is more art than actual game, it felt very relaxing and was very simple to get into. I'm definitely gonna buy it cause I liked Flow.

As for Warhawk Trophies i have no idea but I do know that BurnOut Paradise will give trophies for stuff you've already done if you have the game, that is as soon as the update hits. Bio Shock has them and I hear Uncharted will have them added but they won't be retroactive so you'll have to play it all over again. I was near the end but haven't beaten it still, but figure it'll give me a good reason to replay it again. I wish they'd add some to Heavenly Sword. Oh and I think Motor Storm 2 will also have them on on launch.
