Firmware 2.42 Up For PS3, Trophies Now Loading Faster?
So the latest firmware update doesn't need a long-running news saga to accompany its arrival, but it's probably worth mentioning. We swore to keep PlayStation 3 owners apprised of any and all PS3 news, and this certainly qualifies.
Firmware update 2.40 (or 2.41, depending on when you nabbed it) delivered trophies along with the fancy new in-game XMB, and now, update 2.42 is currently available and waiting for you to download. The official word from Sony, as revealed at the official PlayStation blog, is that it's just another stability update designed to "improve the playback quality of some PlayStation 3 and PlayStation format software." But some users are also starting to notice another little side benefit with 2.42: it seems the Trophies are loading faster. This hearkens back to 2.40, because after downloading, we could've sworn certain games were booting up faster. Top Spin 3 for example, seemed to load almost twice as fast, and we refuse to believe it was just our imaginations... Anyway, 2.42 apparently increases the speed of the machine as well, if only in a more specified area.
These minor updates aren't about to secure huge headlines or gain a significant amount of attention, but each and every one is supposed to increase the overall appeal and quality of the PS3 in some way. And we ain't got no problem with that.
