Custom Soundtracks Awarded For Finishing PixelJunk Eden?

When firmware update 2.40 delivered the in-game XMB, most believed all their games would suddenly - and magically - support user customized soundtracks. However, while the capability is now there, it'll be up to developers to take advantage of that sweet little feature in the future. It'll take some time, of course, but one of the most recent titles apparently already supports custom music...

According to video evidence posted at PlayStation LifeStyle, if you can manage to complete PixelJunk Eden and nab all the Spectra, you will unlock the capability to add your own music into the addictive puzzle/action game. It's not a high-profile title amongst the casual gamers, but it's of a very high quality (especially for a downloadable experience) and most have already sung the praises of its originality. Therefore, you already have plenty of incentive to go through Eden - it's damn good! - but those custom soundtracks should up your motivation level even more. We can't really call it an official announcement due to the source, but we'd certainly like to believe it.

If you're currently in the process of going through PixelJunk Eden, see if you can't rip through the rest (don't forget the Spectra!) and grab the ability to input custom soundtracks. If it happens, feel free to confirm this with us via the Comments section below; it's a very cool prize for beating a game, isn't it?

I'm already addicted to this game, and so are all my friends after coming over.
I really hope this is true. It'll make a fantastic game even more brilliant and perhaps give me something to do while i listen to some PLA podcasts.

The only game I'd probably ever use costom soundtrack with would be Gran Turismo 5. Those endurance races can drag on... :)

We'll I'm only a little over half done with the game but I'll let you know when I get there, which probably won't be for awhile lol. Some of the last levels are ridiculously challenging, and same goes for some of the trophies... Love the game tho and I love the music alot but having your own tracks would be sweet!

I think some games SHOULD NOT have custom soundtracks, it would ruin the game more than adding to it. Imagine Shadow of the Colossos with custom soundtracks with music like I dunno, some Boy band music or some sorta country song playing...seriously...that'd make me dislike the game. I loved the lack of music in the game, when it did...PERFECT!

Pixeljunk Eden...highly addictive game, actually all the games they (Q), made are great downloads. I think this one could possibly be ok with custom considering its sorta I guess music related. They emphasis turning the sound up when you play it XD

I can't see how it would ruin the game if custom soundtracks is what you want. You may not want to use custom soundtracks in some games and that is why you have the option to not use custom soundtracks.

I wish custom soundtracks was made compulsory by Sony. We've been asking for custom soundtracks from the beginning. Firmware 2.40 supposedely given us this but I'm only seeing it in the odd game.

the option to i guess is all dandy, but you don't see that a game should have certain music in it to enhance the overall gaming experience? Sports games,racing,fighting,etc. those would be fine, but playing a game set in ancient times and your blasting away your oh i dunno metallica while playing doesn't feel weird? Well, its just my opinion :-P

The freedom of having the option is always a good thing. Remember that many people just want to have fun playing these games. If they want to cause huge explosions or swing wild blades to the sound of Black Sabbath's Iron Man, it'll enhance it for them. If they want the full rich experience of the game itself, they can do that too. It enables gamers to enjoy the games in the way they want to rather than a set way.
