First Madden NFL 09 Patch Ready

This year's Madden installment is just around the corner, and they're already talking about the first patch.

According to PastaPadre, producer Phil Frazier has released the details on the first patch for the highly anticipated football simulator. The patch will go live right around the time of the game's launch - August 12 - and will address a variety of minor fixes that most gamers might not notice in the first few hours of play. But some of these changes do impact the gameplay; for example, without the patch, there seems to be an inordinate number of long kick returns. Guess the defensive AI just wasn't good enough, so this patch fixes the issue, and they probably need it for NCAA Football 09, too (players are complaining - or bragging - of the same flaw). Another patch will quickly follow the first, and it will "react more to the community suggestions," like the question of computer quarterback accuracy.

Lastly, we're starting to hear whispers about downloadable content for Madden NFL 09, and there is the distinct possibility some of it could be free. What are some of your ideas on how to make the game better? Let 'em know, and just maybe your feedback will result in changes for the better...with patches and updates, gamers have a say in this new generation, you know. Nothing says the a title can't get better after it's released.

@Ben I'm a man and I can admit when I'm wrong! This years madden looks sweet, and it was only a demo! At first I was highly upset with the Madden test. But when I settled down and turn the system back on, I figured it out. I'm over satisfied with what I've played so far. I guess compared to last years Madden on Ps3 anything looks better.

Anyways with what I'm hearing so far this years madden will have me back addicted again

Hopefully many of the things EA is doing with this years Madden will become a trend throughout their sports products. They seem to be admitting the downfalls of many of their previous games and are trying to regain the fans that they have lost. Bringing the community into the fold is a long time overdue for EA and they seem to be reaping the benefits almost immediately. I will be at gamestop at Midnight on Monday night to pick this game up.

i love ncaa 09. i've been playing the hell out of it. i usually get madden every year too, and i downloaded the demo for it as soon as i could. to be honest, i am highly disappointed with the demo and probably won't buy the game. the visuals look crappy to me when compared to ncaa, which is usually not the case. the players really don't look right to me. ncaa 09 is so much better than ever before that it really set my expectations to another level, and if the full madden 09 looks just like the demo, then it really misses that mark. there have always been differences between the two ea football titles, and this time, i think the diffs favor ncaa.

The NCAA franchise has completely fallen into the gutter. The massive glitches and bugs that have plagued this game over the last two years are absolutely inexcusable. Last years NCAA was inferior to Madden. I gave up on the game in November while it usually holds my interest all the way through the winter. I was ready to get NCAA this year but with all the massive problems I decided against it. And barring any as-of-yet-unknown problems Madden 09 looks to be miles ahead of NCAA yet again.

are you shitting me? well you are entitled to your own opinion, but from what i've seen, NCAA 09 looks and feels way better than Madden 09. and i have no idea what you're talking about with glitches in 08. i played both Madden 08 and NCAA 08, and if either of those had any "glitches," it was definitely Madden. the only feature in madden that i gave a crap about (the ability to upload my draft class) was completely hosed. it always made every single player from the uploaded class 28 after the draft ended. thats older than most veterans already on the roster. that game looked like crap and felt like crap, and NCAA 08 wasn't a whole lot better. but this year, NCAA looks and feels GREAT while Madden still looks and feels like crap.

@nomorewar I respect your opinion, but You're the 1st person that I ever heard say past NCAA titles have been inferior to past Madden titles. All of the people I know have said there have been way more different options in the NCAA titles. But hey, everyone won't feel the same way bout everything.

actually, i never said that either. i've always liked ncaa titles more than madden. every single year. but this year's madden looks SO inferior that i won't bother with it. i always used to save draft classes and start up a franchise just to see my ncaa players in the nfl. last year's madden was inferior too, by a lot. in retrospect, i would not have bought that one either...
there have always been one or two cool features in madden that they purposely keep out of ncaa, but as a whole, ncaa is always better imo

not a football fan but at least EA is releasing a good game for once, other than burnout or army of 2. I hope they make an army of 2 part 2 or something, because that game was awesome!

I personally hope they fix the running game on madden test. its too simple to manipulate all you have to do is stand there and slowly run from left to right back and forth and your blockers will flatten each defender. thats not using running skills.

Doesn't EA have people to play these games BEFORE they are released? Why didn't they fix this stuff along time ago...I just don't get it. So now to play this game to it's fullest you will need to get this patch, forget that $hit and forget EA!

How sad is it that the game isn't even out yet and it already needs a patch.....

Heres whats kinda wrong with that statement, you are faulting the company for patching something... games nowadays, especially online games aren't perfect on day one and need to be patched. At least EA is making sure they are on top of things when it needs to be done.

Would you like for them to forget all about the game and let problems run rampant?

Also try to remember a patch/update isn't always there to "fix" something, sometimes its there to add things that might enhance your enjoyment.

I guess from your point of view, how sad is it that SC4 and GTA4 got patches days after they first came out...

I really hope this game turns out well. The graphics and gameplay were pretty fun on the demo, but you could only tell a little by a quick demo like that. If you have the patience, I would suggest waiting a week for user reviews before buying it this year. I regretted buying the PS3 08 Madden right away without renting or reading reviews about it first. Like many, I buy Madden EVERY year. Where do we make suggestions on Madden improvements?
