Soul Calibur IV Sells Over 2 Million

We don't know about you, but we're certainly having a lot of fun playing Soul Calibur IV; working to give every character their ultimate weapon is actually quite entertaining. But we're not the only ones having a blast with Namco's blockbuster fighter.

It'll be a while until we have official results, but several outside sources are reporting that the fourth iteration of the esteemed fighting franchise sold over 2 million units during its first release week. If you've already forgotten, that was only last week as the game hit store shelves in North America on August 4. This could certainly help Namco's bottom line, because the company's quarterly results (which we won't depress you with here) weren't good at all. It's likely that Namco Bandai dumped a whole lot of money on SCIV, and they're probably expecting the game to sell enough to bring in a hefty amount of profit. We'll wait on the official numbers from the NPD for the US, but in the meantime, these early numbers are a good indication. Soul Calibur IV is super popular, and it should retain that popularity through the next few months.

If you haven't yet picked it up and are looking for a quality addition to your PS3 library, we strongly suggest making the purchase. You'd have to be quite the fighting genre cynic to be disappointed with this production.

Have you ever played a fighting game with a good story?!? I mean, at one point in DOA4, you fight over lettuce!! Lettuce for God's sake!!! Someone explain this to me!!!

But yes, Soul Caliber IV has been sucking my life away for the last week. Fantastic game. I've been a fan of the series since I commendeared my roomate's Dreamcast to play the original Soul Caliber pretty much night and day for months on end.

Hey I played you the other night and conncection was decent until... well, completely disconnected. I dont even attempt parrying online. To me thats the fanciest move to pull. The equivelant of basketball rejection. 'Denied!'

I think he's talking about the individual storylines for the characters, which...well, yes, they do suck. But NOT if you compare them to plots in other fighting games. For the most part, the genre is known for the worst and lamest stories imaginable (for obvious reasons), but at the very least, the stories in SCIV aren't laughable. They're not good, but they're not horrible, either.

I believe the original Mortal Kombat did have a decent enuf story line. Much better than some of the later games in the genre.

I've been a SC fan since the launch of the Dreamcast(and still have it) The story of the swords is not a bad one, character dev. however is pretty thin. But fight games is never really about story but more on game mechanics. It's a deep weapon base fighter which I still think there is no match. What does annoy me is the online aspect, after a 6 win steak(mind you ill lose 1 or 2 to get the feel of the fighter)I get the boot from the host, every damn time.I have a bluetooth but never once used it in SC...yet.

I played this in the shop for half an hour & i was very confused. i went on story mode i had to beat this guy 3 times, then he revealed his identity, then i had to fight him again!!! If im honest i prefer Tekken, though thats gone downhill since T4. I want a fighting game so bad! but Tekkens the only one that really satisfies my hunger. don't even get me started on Virtua Fighter.

Seriously? I played Tekken since Tekken 1 in the arcade and Tekken 4 is by far the worst. I pretty much stopped caring until they ignored 4 and went back to Tekken 3's engine in Tekken 5. Anyway, I do prefer Tekken but its just a preference and I cant deny the addictivity of SC4. Definitely something easier to grab and play with friends than other fighters.

And, at least at amazon, the PS3 version is out-selling the 360 version!

Yeah, I spend quite a bit of time "playing dress-up" too. I'm almost ashamed of myself.

As a quick reference to the picture of Ivy above:

I'm pretty sure that that "shirt" (and I use that word in the loosest of possible deffinitions) actually would not cover the bits that the devolpers seem to think it does. I mean, not unless she's built differently than every other woman on the face of the Earth.

And considering that doesn't appear to be the most supportive of attire, and the developers gave her more "bounce" than a busty playboy bunny on a pogo stick, it's a wonder she doesn't get knocked out by her own girls while trying to fight.

Though, that would make a rather interesting animation....

"This victory strengthen's the soul of Ivy's ta-ta's."

...where have you been in the world of video game development? Impossibly formed females are common, though not as common as impossibly formed males. Let's not forget that.

I pretty much suck at this game, but I am still trying to unlock every single item in the game. I am most of the way there.
