No JPEGs Supported In LBP, Only PlayStation Eye?

LittleBigPlanet is all about cooperative gameplay and ultimate customization. The appeal is undeniable, but perhaps saying "ultimate customization" is stretching the truth just a bit, if you can't really implement standard JPEGs into the game.

According to a conversation sparked over at the NeoGAF forums, gamers are discovering multiple sets of evidence that point towards one hidden fact: if you want to import pictures into created levels, you'll need the PlayStation Eye to accomplish the feat. The first proof of this is at the official PlayStation Blog, where Chuck Lacson answered the question, "Will I be able to import my cat pics into my created levels?" with, "yes you will! (If you have a PS Eye that is.)" Then, later, someone asked about maybe finding a way to import a Kratos Sackboy of their own design, and the response was this from SCEA Marketing Manager Mark Valledor-

"You won't be able to customize your SackBoy in the detail that you describe, but there may be a few ways you can work it. For example, you can wear a cardboard box costume item or cardboard mask costume item and sticker it with a Kratos image using your PLAYSTATION Eye. You can even sticker/slap decorations your SackBoy directly...so the possibilities are endless."

As far as we can tell, we're indirectly being told that we'll need the PlayStation Eye to get images outside LittleBigPlanet into the levels of our own design. No imported JPEGs, which would be a whole lot simpler, of course. Then again, perhaps you can do this, and Sony is simply pushing another one of their products. That's very possible, too, but it's hard to tell...

Yea, Zubra-Zap, your foolish. This game, I bet, will be worth more than your life :P

Now for the JPEGs, I highly doubt that you cannot use them in LBP. I have been seeing this thing spread like a plaque (This story) and take a minute to think about it.. JPEG is very common in images, and very easy to use. Why in the world would MM decide to just blow it away? I highly doubt they would do that.

Think about it some more. It makes perfect sense. They don't want you to use copyrighted images. If you haven't noticed, and if I'm not mistaken, all the games that support importing images, only support images that are captured from the PS Eye or images that you upload to their servers. I think the reason that they require you to upload to their servers from your computer instead of just pulling it from your PS3 is so that they can monitor the images you're using. I know I was puzzled when the Tiger Woods games first implemented the face capture. I had wondered why can't I just pull my face from my PS3? But now that I think about it, my explanation makes perfect sense. Keep in mind that this observation comes from games published by EA, so maybe it's just them.

Edit: newest example is EA's Facebreaker

Ya know, when I was playing the face-breaker demo, I wondered why I would have to upload a picture to some server in order to get it into the game instead of just using one on my PS3. That makes sense now. I still don't like it, but at least it has some reason to it.

I'm pretty sure they would use jpegs along with the PSeye. I have the Eye and I think its an awesome camera to use for video chat and internet cam. I don't mind the low resolution.

It's all 'bout pushing the PSEye
I don't blame them

If anything I'm sure the pseye will be usable with future games, so hey it ain't that bad.

In the beginning I won't be using photos to make levels so I don't mind.

Does anyone have a PS Eye? What format does it save in? Just change all your pictures to that format, and you should be good to go.

Well I wanted to use graphic-pornographic images in the game itself in the form of JPEG imports. It would of made this gimmicky venture all the more worth while.

@Tatsujin aka "judge of all life": The game will be a few bucks on the PSN store not worth more than any ones life..unless your a fanboy sociopath like yourself.

Why is this game "gimmicky" or "foolish looking game" I don't know why you're so quick to put down this game. Do you not see the potential? Or are you just one of those old school gamers that doesn't like NEW FRESH ideas? I'm not attacking you, I'd just like to know why your so down on it. After all everyone is entitled to their opinions
