EA Sports To Issue Day One Update To Reflect Favre Trade

Oh man...it's a whole new level of the "Madden Curse." Then again, perhaps it's just a curse for Packer fans; take a good long look at good ol' #4 here, because it's the only way you'll see Brett Favre in a Green Bay uniform ever again. Yep, believe it or not, one of the game's best is now a New York Jet. Of course, the question is, what will EA do with the cover of Madden NFL 09, slated to release next week?

Well, as expected, it's too late to do anything. Favre in a Packer uniform will remain on the cover, but EA Sports head man Peter Moore says they've got "a plan." IGN originally confirmed there would be no second printing of Madden NFL 09 to reflect the updated roster change, but EA has just confirmed with the MTV Multiplayer blog that they will issue a "day-one update" that will put Favre in his new rightful place on the Jets. And furthermore, if you wish to be 100% authentic, you could do this:

"We do not plan to re-issue packaging, but WILL offer a free downloadable cover in the coming days on easports.com featuring Brett Favre in a Jets uniform. Fans can print this new cover out and insert it into the case of Madden NFL 09."

Football fans in Green Bay are currently in mourning and ESPN has been covering one topic and one topic only for the past five hours at least. It's just so ironic that this huge news would impact the gaming world...if somebody had told EA that Brett Favre wouldn't be in a Packer uniform at the start of the 2008 season, who at that company wouldn't be rolling on the floor, laughing up a lung? Retired, probably, return to Green Bay, maybe, but traded to another team? No way. Ah, yes way, but EA is on top of things.

I hate to see Favre with another jersey... Good luck to him

EA normally issues some patches in order to get the roster updated, so it's not big news

I can't even begin to tell you how sick I am of Brett Favre related stories. I haven't watched ESPN in weeks because I was getting so sick of the constant "Brett Favre this, Brett Favre that" nonsense. I suppose it's break from the constant "A-Rod this, A-Rod that" nonsense that ESPN usually drivels on about. But enough's enough already. Now it's infiltrating the media of my other interests as well. I might as well go put a fork in a light socket.

What are you talking about betrayal ? he wants to play and on the Packers he wasnt gonna be the starter. Which is fair and im sure Favre isn't mad but no less he came back to PLAY thus he seeked a chance to play somewhere else.
Hes not a traitor but thats the way the cookie crumbles.

Good for EA...maybe they'll update all rosters with the first patch.

ESPN milked the whole Favre thing for everything they could. I was sick of it. I'm sure now they're busy looking for the next story they can beat into the ground.

I think printing your own cover and placing it in the case is lame.

Farve isnt that great anymore. Sure, he was good 15 years ago, in his prime, but not anymore. I felt they shouldnt have put him on the cover in the first place. There are plenty of players that are more deserving.

Farve sucks anyway. Not getting this year's game if someone paid ME to get it. Hope that Madden curse goes into full effect.

LOL @ all the Favre hate some guys spew out. One of the better players out there although he is nearing retirement.

I cant think of too many QBs that can lead their team almost singlehandedly to a superbowl , although he didnt make it. Lets face it, that was most of his doing.

To say Favre sucks is like me saying Tom Brady sucks, it just aint true and ya know it. All of this is coming from a lifelong, diehard CHICAGO BEARS fan. The rivalry just wont mean the same anymore...

Amen, im a Titans fan myself....and while Favre might not be as good as he was. Hes not dead yet and i know he can still throw a football. Any team that underestimates him is gonna lose the game.

I'm a bears fan, so I love the whole situation. But as a football fan, its still entertaining to see all the drama, hahah. As for the cover of Madden 09, I don't like it because of Favre being on the cover, i could care less what jersey he has on, it's still Brett Favre. And to those football haters, go back to playing your rpgs and power swords, don't hate cuz you can't catch or throw.
