Download Home PS3 Theme, Apply For Closed Beta Test

Hey, here's a little treat, courtesy of PlayStation Home Director Jack Buser.

Over at the official PlayStation blog, Buser has revealed that his team will be expanding the closed beta test for Home, and this expansion kicks off "at the end of the month." Do you want a spot in the beta? Well, here's all you need to do: the PlayStation Store should now be updated with a special PlayStation Home theme - pictured here - and if you download it, you're officially in the running. If you want to up your chances, simply be active on the PS3, as Buser says one of the criteria they'll look at is "activity on the PlayStation Network." Obviously, if you're already part of the beta testing, you'll automatically be part of this expansion. Europe will also expand their closed beta test as well, and again, they'll be "targeting consumers who have been most active on PlayStation Network and PlayStation Store."

Okay, so now you know. You've got a shot at getting in if you simply download the Home theme and then go crazy on the Network. Boot up your favorite online game or something, and then play a lot over the next few weeks. That oughta do it. Good luck!

Yea if if don't get accept into the beta, the theme still is a plus. Wounder if Folding@home counts as activity.

I leave my PS3 online most of the day, but I never really play my games online. I wonder if they'll know...

I don't know about you guys but I'm actually pretty confident in my chances for this thing. I'm on WAY to often. But that's only compared to others i know. Maybe I'm not as crazy as i think.

Well I don't think it's the AMOUNT OF TIME you're online with game or whatnot.

I think it's more 'bout the games you play online. Like if they already have a bunch of COD4 Home beta users then they're probably looking for those who play other games like GT5P or GTAIV, etc.

I think it really depends on which games you're playing.

Also I think when you bought the ps3 really matters. Like if you've been there from the beginning or so.

We'll see, hope I get in but in these things few ever do lol.

This seems like a great way to me. Instead of just randomly drawing people who may or may not really be interested they are bringing the most active users in. That way they can really start to see what's going on as the server load gets larger. If they end up randomly inviting people that are never on that server load can't get properly tested. As far as I can tell this is the most sensible way I've heard of to deal with what is still a closed beta test.

I think that Sony should look for all your activities on the PSN, including the store, online and offline playing (you're still connected to the PSN), buddies, PSEye use.

Home is a social networking application. So it would only make sense if they incorporate you socializing with your psn friends. I'm pretty sure that what they mean by being active doesn't just mean playing online, but could also mean being connected to psn and maybe playing games that post rankings online.

I communicate often with my friends list that are on. Matter of fact I'm thinking about deleting the ones that haven't been on in a while (based off of the friendds app at playstation underground). So, I'm looking for active PS3 users. Add me to your list: psn id javon27.

p.s. I'm looking for 5 other people to have a 6 people video chat. So if you have a pseye or equivalent, please add me!

Hey, where do you live and what is the time zone? I have a PSEye and headset and I'm active on the PSN daily.

Btw what do you mean when you say UK users will get an e-mail? About how to get in the closed beta?

Thanks, Matt.

jziel14 is right; it says so right on the PS Blog. SCEE will alert PSN users about the beta test via e-mail.

I have no chance and may prove to me that I won't have an interest in Home, as I'm not an active user when it comes to network socializing within an online game or outside the games. In fact I rarely play online games at all, don't get me wrong I enjoy when I have played online, just not that big on it and I work to many hours. Besides when I do get to play any of my consoles, I like to start and finnish my single player campaigns and then move on to the next game. I just have too many games that I haven't touched, so many its like its becoming more of a collection than I actually playing them.

On the other hand Home may be the gateway that gets me more interested in social activities within Playstation communities?

Glad Sony is starting another beta but would have been better if they just released the thing. Unfortunately I don't have internet at my new house so I have to wait which doesn't help in a timed event. I'm sure sony is going to look at people who socialize and spend money (Ps Eye, Ps store, etc.) but I do use my ps to talk to lots of friends and have to keep deleting people who don't chat. Anyways since people are throwing their psn id's around, mine is Booshwa, add if you want. I don't have a pseye but have a headset.

I better be invited to the Home Beta.
I keep my ps3 on non-stop all the time.

It won't even play GTA IV anymore
Ether the 2.42 PS3 version or the 1.02 GTA IV
But i atleast could play for 5 minutes on average.
Now - it just freezes all the damn time - i cant even get the foot out the door - so to speak
