The Godfather II Detailed, Dated
"The Godfather" is, of course, one of the film industry's most celebrated movies, and it's also the name of a fairly decent video game adaptation from 2007. But many will tell you the sequel is actually the better movie, so how's about we assume it'll be the better game, too?
EA and Paramount Digital Entertainment have today revealed the official details of The Godfather II, along with the estimated release date of February 2009. "Set in a stunning open-world environment," players will start off in the prestigious role of Don of New York, and you will expand your rule to both Cuba and Florida. The stage is set in the 1960s, and you will once again take advantage of the game's patented "BlackHand" control scheme. New features, like pressure tactics, a new combo system, and a more in-depth process of selecting your own crew, will be included in this sequel, which means the gameplay diversity should be significant. Each family member is able to specialize in one particular area of expertise, such as demolitions, engineering, arson, first-aid, etc., so there should be a great deal of strategy involved. Here's what Executive Producer Hunter Smith had to say about his game in the press release-
"In the 1960’s, a mafia Don was only as strong as his family. We found the hierarchical culture of organized crime intriguing. Running an organized crime family in a world defined by family loyalty is something that we felt could introduce a new strategic element to the genre. That is what the Don’s View is all about -- laying out a strategy to pick off the competition one by one. The Don’s View is so unique, it could fundamentally change the rules of open-world games by blending action and strategy to create something entirely new."
In more good news, The Godfather II will premier exclusively on GameTrailersTV on Friday, August 15. The entire episode (it's on SpikeTV, remember) will revolve around this promising title, and you'll be treated to behind-the-scenes commentary along with new looks at the game itself. Then, come February, you'll be able to pick this one up for either the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 or PC. Never go against the family, my son.
