Konami Ships 4 Million Metal Gear Solid 4 Copies Worldwide

We all know that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a true-blue system seller for Sony, so it's no surprise to hear the game itself is sitting atop sales charts all over the world.  And due to that demand, Konami has shipped a whole lot of copies.

According to PSU, the latest Konami sales report shows that the publisher has shipped close to 4 million units worldwide (3.94 million, to be exact) since its release on June 12. Now, we don't know how many of those 4 million copies have actually been sold, but several sources have been saying that 1 out of every 4 or 5 PS3 owners have purchased the blockbuster title. We can't be sure if this is true, of course, but it would probably make sense to assume that many PS3 owners would want to own the single best exclusive game for the system. In terms of the competition, Konami can't hope to sell as many copies as Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV, but the latter is a multiplatform title also available on the Xbox 360 and PC, so it's hardly a fair comparison. Konami does hope to top 5 million MGS4 copies sold before 2008 is out, and that will probably happen.

So what if GTAIV sold 6 million worldwide in the first two or three days of its release? It's just not fair to compare the two, and in all honesty, if you're a real gamer, you ought to have both titles in your collection. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. It's a law.

y would u compare their sales? 1st they are both different genre game but if MGS4 were 2 go multiplatform i'm pretty sure its gonna be either right behind GTA4's tail or the other way around

Yeah, I agree. Also the MGS series has a complex narrative and storyline that wouldn't appeal to the 'casual gamer' type. GTA IV is more of the 'bang! You're dead!' type of thing.

I consider myself a gamer, but I really hate GTA since long ago, I won't be getting those until someone give it to me as a gift

I like them both, GTA for online fun with my friends...yanno the more chaotic fun. But MGS4 is just a classic game that will always be loved.

I'm waiting until everyone sells their copies to gamestop and they have about 20 copies of each on the shelf so I can buy them cheap. I love recycled video games!

i rarely played gta 4, and i already bored.....
still love Lost Odyssey and CoD4 Multiplayer :D

btw if mgs 4 go multi, konami will get more sales

I have GTA4 and love it, and I just rented Metal Gear. So far I hate it. HATE it.
I'll give it more of a play to try to understand everyone's obscession with it, but I play games to PLAY games, not watch movies. If I want to watch a movie, I'll watch a movie.
My two favorite games are Uncharted:Drakes Fortune and Resident Evil 4. Those games have cut scenes sure, but they're not MOVIES like Metal Gear 4. GTA4 has a great storyline but it doesn't take up too much time in between actually PLAYING. Maybe I just don't like military games or something, but regardless, the cutscenes in Metal Gear are way too often and way too long.

Try playing on a harder difficulty. If the gameplay is beneath your level of play ability notch it up, then you'll be glad of the cut-scenes as a breather.

But seriously, MGS4 about a story told through more interactive means. It does need a lot of video to tell a lot of that story, but all the action is yours to play. It's like a movie with all the action in your control. Unlike some other games where even the speech is controlled and tedium ensues.

GTAIV isn't really my thing so I probably won't get it for a while, but I do wana get my hands on MGS4. I've been waiting to get a Dualshock 3 before I get the game though.

MGS4 is definitely the best ps3 game I've ever played.

Amazing from beginning to end.

In terms of prccessing and overall graphics it really pushed the ps3 very far.

OK, here's the thing.

Metal Gear Solid 4 having shipped 4 million copies is awesome! That's an ESTIMATED 3.5 MILLION in real sales, which is still incredible.

Konami will get those 5 million by the end of the year.

Oh, and what's the deal with GTA4 sales? It has sold only 4.25 million on the PS3, which is rather disappointing for a game that has 'mass appeal'.

Anyway, MGS4 is a game that should be in every PS3 owners collection. It's a game that will never be forgotten and will be talked about for generations.

i loved the gta series until gta 4. i dunno if its the tiny liberty city or the lack of activities besides buying clothes n taking missions,But mgs is worth every penny,more even

i didnt know they made gTA4 for the pc ben...

Edit: oh i see, its coming out later, i probably will be the best looking version if you can afford that type of pc. Id still prefer it on a ps3 or 360 though

One of the user's reviews on Metacritic summed it up almost perfectly for me and is how I feel about MG4....
"I rented this and am new to the series. This game seems suited for the MGS fanboys. Not something you will pick up and play well the first couple hours. my main gripes are .. why can't Snake jump ? I constantly was held up by 18 inch boxes or crates. Also why is Snake sooo slow ? He runs slower than most game avatars walk. And why oh why is there so many lengthy drawn out cut scenes ???? you will sit for 5 to 10 minutes some time to listen to a non sensical story. oh and double why do I have to load so much to my hard drive ? it still seems slow and you will be loading often. The graphics are killer but for me the action is slow and there are many options and features. So if you like this stuff go for it but if your new to this game I say rent it first."

I still dint finish the game, and i like being slow at it because that's how i enjoy my games. I don't like to rush on any games single player.

Mgs4 is a great game but definitely not for everyone. A friend of mine bought it and was complaining about all the installs and everything one day. The next day he was like "OMG THIS GAME ROX!".
