System Shock 3 Not Impossible?
While Bioshock is loved by many, most will agree it's really nothing like the franchise it was loosely based upon, System Shock. It has been nearly a full decade since System Shock 2 released, but 2K Boston's Ken Levine isn't about to pronounce it dead just yet.
Levine spoke to the Videogaming247 blog regarding the possibility of an official third installment in the series that so many PC gamers adored back in the late '90s.
"Would I turn my nose up at another round with Shodan? No. Life is long. Who knows. But right now, certainly, I'm engaged with my employer, Take-Two, who doesn't have ownership of that franchise."
He did add that he "loves Shodan" and "loves the world," which means the idea of System Shock 3 isn't exactly dead. But for now, he's focused on some sort of secret project at Take-Two - which clearly isn't SS3; the "System Shock" name is owned by EA - and 2K Marin continues to bang away at Bioshock 2. But there will always be die-hard fans of the massively popular and critically acclaimed franchise from yesteryear, and so long as one major team member still likes the idea of "another round with Shodan," we believe the possibility remains. And of course, if such a project comes about, we fully expect it to be available on the next-gen consoles as well as the PC.
