Breaking News: 160GB PS3 Uncharted Bundle For North America!
Less than an hour ago, the 160GB PlayStation 3 was officially announced for PAL regions. However, we just now got even bigger news from a Sony press release that will appeal to just about anyone still considering a PS3 purchase.
Today, Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced their plans to introduce the 160GB PS3 to North America, and it will first arrive in the form of a Limited Edition Uncharted: Drake's Fortune bundle. It will have the most agreeable price of $499.99 and will be on store shelves in November, just in time for the crazy holiday rush. As a bonus, Sony will be including a PlayStation Network voucher for PAIN along with the expected Dual Shock 3 wireless controller.
"As PLAYSTATION Network continues to evolve with our recently launched video delivery service and more exclusive games, PS3 owners are demanding more storage capacity," said Jack Tretton, president and CEO, SCEA. "Consumers also are utilizing PS3 as an entertainment hub for their digital media, placing content such as their entire music collection on the hard drive. The 160GB PS3 system addresses this growing consumer demand in a compelling bundle that delivers significant value."
How's that for a holiday statement from Sony? There's no doubt that with Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet dropping at the end of the year, this bundle (that includes one of the system's best titles, by the way) will get a whole lot of attention from those who have been waiting to pick up the PS3. Great news, indeed.

I think Sony is too slow with getting out bundles all together. One bundle with every huge exclusive. Give people some choises!

This bundle gives those who dont have a ps3 a chance to experience Uncharted cuz lets face it, those who buy a ps3 now are more than likely to forget about Uncharted with so many other great games out there and coming, but since its coming with the system, they will get a chance. Its not like they are packaging the system with Resistance or Genji, now those are old games

Another blog mentioned that Sony promised a more energy-efficient PS3 so I wonder if any of these will use the newest and smaller chips.

They still don't have BC in these new PS3 models and sadly some people have bought the 40GB thinking it has BC only to find it doesn't !
Come on Sony you've been around long enough to know what your gamers want so appease them and do the right thing and add BC ! It couldn't cost much more than a bundled game costs !
Adding back the components for BC couldn't cost much more than the free bundled game that Sony is including !

I've been just waiting for the right package to get on board now that blue-ray has been decided, but I don't need it, and I have a xbox360 hooked up to my HD TV already.
I have a great ps2 library though and games I enjoyed playing with the wife - the system playing PS2 games, hooking up to the HD TV appropriately, and adding wireless controllers would be win win win.
Then I'd start digging into all the other goodies the ps3 itself brings, but honestly it's a mess keeping track of the skus, what will and won't do backwards compatability now, and apparently I'll have to catch up regarding MC slot and 'PAIN' games, don't know what that's about. Sheesh.
I give Sony props for usable USBs/bluetooth and web browsing, I'd love to use a wireless keyboard with it, and they certainly have some interesting bits. But PS2 backward compat is huge - I have the old one, no wireless controllers as it stands, don't have the desire nor # of inputs for the systems separated, let alone more of periphials, etc.
xbox360 backwards compatability has been a bit goofy but it IS there, has expanded over time, and has been available on every system - yes this is a plus.
SONY - get HOME out, and give us an updated REASONABLE SKU for backwards compatability, and then you'll hit a HOMERUN...
Until then I'm not really hurting, just odd as I continue to try and find a way to give you my business, but apparently you don't want it.

I wonder if consumer America will think "bigger HDD PS3=better PS3". Kinda like a rich guy buying a fast sports car. Sure, the car looks great, but his "hardware" lmao isn't bigger/better because of it; he's still an unhealthy, balding, high-cholesterol, "unequipped" human. Anyways, retail = mankind's fascination with money, power, and "bigger=better" ideologies, whether it's bigger console HDD sizes or better looking sports cars... 160 is a bigger number but it's still not packin' the hardware!
I think I'm going to quit my retail job soon, I'm sick of dealing with the American public lmao. If I've had customers yell at me and accuse me of lying because I'm letting them know the HDDVD player add-on for Xbox 360 is not a "mini-Xbox 360 that plays all 360 games by itself" (one of hundreds of stories), I just can't WAIT for these new PS3 SKUs to hit the store!
