SCEI Announces PS3 Wireless Keypad

Well, it's another nice peripheral for a system that continues to be on the upswing.

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. has officially announced the Wireless Keypad for the PlayStation 3, which conveniently plugs into either the Sixaxis or Dual Shock 3 controller. It will be released in North America in November and in Japan, Europe and Asia by the end of the year, and will come in handy for anybody who wants an easier method of chatting online. You use this instead of the on-screen keyboard, and the Wireless Keypad will even support text chat in the upcoming PlayStation Home service as well. All you need to do is connect the Keypad to your controller with the USB cable that came with the system, and you're good to go.

This special Bluetooth device also features two shortcut buttons - one for Communication and one for Message Box - which will allow you to switch between pre-set features the Cross Media Bar. But it doesn't end there; we'll even get a Touch Pad Button that lets all users "use the entire surface of the keypad as a touch pad." Slide your finger around and control that arrow in the browser, just as you would on a laptop. LittleBigPlanet will be one of the first PS3 titles to support text chat, and as soon as we have an exact release date and a price, we'll tell you all about it. The big day for Sony news continues. :)

Mmm..I believe this is in preperation for somthing much bigger.Think about it.It doubles as a mouse and keyboard.Could we say New PS3 Everquest or somthing along those lines!! IDK but they could easly bundle this Offical PS3 keyboard with any PS3 MMO that comes out "Buy the game and also get the keboard" We all know we want a good consule MMO and this could be its gateway! "Or it could fail but lets think posative lol"

jesus christ ppl is there nothing that can plz u? its for chatting n browsing obviously so the point of it being located above the sticks makes perfect sense cuz you're holding the controller from below like normal. the 360s looks like a bulky mess lodged in between the grips

Perfect. I was wondering why they didn't put the keyboard below the controller. Then I figured, with my big hands on the dualshock3, that above the controller is so much more convenient for me. Good job Sony!

Nvm my previous post. It is a blu-tooth. Keyboard and a mouse both get plugged into your controller. That's not bad! Whats the price on this baby?

Btw, they NEED a headset, an official one.

Obviously this will be a great tool to use, especially when home finally drops, unless that has a good voice chat, even then, it would help me greatly to be able to fire off messages in rapid succession

for real?

i'd just like to see how big the sucker is. If the whole thing's a touch screen, its either gonna be real expensive or real small...
