GC 2008: SCEE Confirms PS3 MMOs For PAL Territories
We've known about games like The Agency for a while, but when Sony Online Entertainment's projects were announced, Europe was mysteriously left out of the unveiling. Well, no longer.
At the Leipzig Games Convention this week, SCEE announced that they - like SCEA - have officially "joined forces with Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE)" in a deal that will bring the typically PC-oriented MMO to the PlayStation 3. This arrangement will allow SCEE to publish and distribute three MMOs in all PAL territories: DC Universe, The Agency, and FreeRealms. The first on that list was unveiled at E3 last month, and if you couldn't guess from the title, it's a superhero-oriented MMO, perhaps similar to the likes of City of Heroes. The Agency is akin to James Bond in a massive online world, and FreeRealms is actually geared toward the younger crowd; it reminds us of Animal Crossing only with spells and battles. So said SCEE president, David Reeves on the subject of these new MMOs:
"This is an opportunity for SCEE and SOE to bring the best online experiences from PC gaming to the PLAYSTATION 3 universe, the result of which will certainly benefit PlayStation fans."
So don't you worry, Euro gamers. You're not about to be cut out of the loop when it comes to innovative console MMOs. We're not sure if SCEE will distribute these three at the same time SCEA distributes them in North America, but for now, it's just good to know such games will see release in both regions.
