Mirror's Edge A Timed PS3 Exclusive? EA Says No
Sometimes, the lines get crossed in the world of video game journalism, and it can get especially confusing when a supposedly official source "confirms" something that is, in all actuality, false.
The big rumor circulating throughout the Internet centered on DICE/EA's very promising and unique project, Mirror's Edge. Evidently, several sources have reported that SCEE president David Reeves said the game would be a timed exclusive for the PlayStation 3, which may be considered logical if DICE is indeed using the PS3 as the lead platform in their design proceedings. However, either Reeves was just plain wrong or somebody misinterpreted one of his comments, because EA was good enough to clear this up for us: according to the PR manager for the game, Peter Nguyen, the potentially innovative title will ship "this winter on PS3, X360, and PC." He goes on to say that "Mirror's Edge will not be a timed exclusive for PS3." Can't get any clearer than that, folks.
This is the second time we've had to go to EA asking for rumor clarification concerning this game; the first one came from a typo in a preview that stated Mirror's Edge was coming at the end of June 2008. Yeah, obviously that was never true, but again, it was a rumor that certainly got around the Internet, and we're in the business of stating fact. Well, whenever possible, anyway.
