PS3 Firmware Update 2.50 To Feature Screen Grabbing?

Obviously, the biggest update of the year brought PlayStation 3 owners the in-game XMB and Trophy support, but that doesn't mean Sony is done enhancing their next-gen console. Far from it. And if the following details are accurate, firmware update 2.50 will add yet another cool feature.

According to CVG, the update will include screen grabbing, which will let the player pause a game and snag a photo of the on-screen action. This supposed "development source" says it's definitely coming, but the details are relatively sparse. There's still no knowing what we could actually do with the pic once it's "grabbed," but there are a variety of reasons to screen-capture. Some people may want to toss up a shot of their single-player activity onto the online community, just to prove their skills. Or maybe something absolutely strange happened on your PS3, and you want everyone in the world to know what it is. Share and share alike could be the new motto when it comes to screen grabbing, and it'd be just another reason to interact with your Network pals. We think.

Anyway, this certainly isn't confirmed and we have no release date or official details on firmware update 2.50. Frankly, there are several rumors going around about 2.50, but this one seems to be the most prominent for now. We'll let you know whenever Sony decides to release concrete details.

I remember a while back seeing this sort of thing in a fps, don't remember the name of it, but it used something similar, for an achivment or save

i use it in Battlefield.. its very very cool.

also used to use it in SKATE too..

its a fun concept.

how would it work
like if you paused the game surely it would take a pic of the pause menu most games have
unless its like skate where ur ps3 records wot you done for the last 20 seconds and you pick
would be a cool feature

also another thought, like in game music, would the devs have to release a patch for it to work?

Idk sounds good and if true then it will get a warm welcome. But this seems like ,for games at least, something the developer would have to allow for it to work with their game. Much like custom music.

Fl0w has this feature, and it's great.
I've heard that there'll be custom PSN avatars soon, perhaps the screen shots could be used with them.

They should up the ante and just add in-game recording too...I've been waiting for that to be added to like GTA4 atleast or something!

I wish I could have more access to my files and folders on my PS3...things could be alot more organized. But I guess that'd be too much like the PC

This would be a cool feature for LBP if we are able to import the pics as backgrounds or some other type of usable item in the game.

I imagine Sony will continue to upgrade the Network throughout the PS3's lifespan, so those features should come eventually.

eba if it helps i remember hearing one of the sony guys say they were working on a patch for chatting while you play a game. the way he said it it sounded like ben could be playing call of duty and i could be playing grand theft auto but at the same time we could be video chatting. im pretty sure thats what he meant. did anybody else hear anything like that?

it's good for people who play games which involve having clan battles and such, like on cod4, so we can take screenshots of the scores and stuff for credibility =)

Maybe the record feature (if they make one) will come with something like Eye Create 2 then u could adjust and modify the in-game clip.

It would b nice if they concerntrated on the things th@ matter like in game music..... still waiting 4, leave ur ps downloadin over night then the ps automatically shuts down after the last download, charge my dual shock when in standby mode, latest flash player aswell
