EA/Take-Two Talks Go Into Hiding

You're probably sick of hearing about it, but you needn't worry: the next time any news arrives from either the EA or Take-Two camp, it'll be significant.

According to Reuters, EA has agreed via "regulatory filing with the SEC to not "make any further announcements regarding the status of any discussions or negotiations with Take-Two" until the two sides can strike a mutual agreement. Therefore, you won't be hearing any more updates on past deadlines, what John Riccitiello or Strauss Zelnick said in a recent statement, or the details on the latest buyout offer. Both EA and Take-Two have decided to take everything behind closed doors and out of the limelight, which will hopefully speed up this process. We've been talking about this since, what, February? EA isn't about to give up, and Take-Two isn't about to relinquish their company unless they see a number they'll accept, but in the end, something will have to give. Will EA come up with the cash to finish this thing off?

Well, it won't really matter which direction these talks go because the press likely won't be aware of it. Only leaked information will find its way to the forefront, and we're only going to accept official news when it comes to industry business. Hence, the EA/Take-Two thing is going to take a backseat until the conclusion arrives.

It's sad that Take Two is actually thinking 'bout it.

Meh, doesn't matter to me since GTAIV is the complete package. Really don't see a new GTA doing that great.

DON'T DO IT TAKE TWO!!!!!!!!!

EA fails on so many levels, i feel the reason they keep losing customer faith is because they are becoming more of a corporate business then a game business. They are depersonalizing more and more and when you start to lose personal relationships and move toward a "paper relationship" it all just becomes shit. They are too focused on making money then they are providing a quality game.

I think EA is just being silly with this now. There going to end up shelling out way too much money like Microsoft did when they paid for the DLC for GTAIV and the profits (if they do surpass it) won't be even that high.

This is obviously because EA's tactics of attempting to force Take Two's hand through the media doesn't just sicken me.
Shame on EA. They should just give up on this terrible business strategy and do something new, like make a decent game.

i still honestly don't see why everyone is still bagging on EA, so what if they want take-two, that doesn't make them a terrible company, it just means they obviously want something other publishers don't have. make a decent game? i think they have been. skate, burnout, look at mirror's edge now? everyone complains when ea does something bad with games but when the game is good everyone just says, oh it's the developers who made it good not ea, well if that's true, then it's the developers that made the games suck too obviously.

Skate? seriously!?
Ok, reasons why we hate EA; buying out and destroying smaller companies, buying up franchises and releasing pathetic updates every couple of months to bleed fans dry, an evil plan to get rid of any ounce of innovation in the games industry. and that's just a few main points there.
Here is EA's formula for making an inovating game, 1. steal someone else's idea. 2. alter said idea a little, maybe by adding a twist stolen from another title. 3. release milk for all it's worth. 4. if all else fails, buy up all competition so that we don't have to make good games to have 100% of sales.

Let it be known!

I can't even remember the last EA game I bought. And yes Madden is worthless, thank god I don't like Football :D nor Soccer.

I think the last EA game I bought was MVP Baseball in 2005.

Don't think I'll ever buy an EA game, ever.

I'm more with Legendary on this one. Most of the EA hate comes from the crappy PS3 ports we suffered through in 2007, and gamers don't forget that easily. Furthermore, there is a semblance of domination and "cornering the market" so-to-speak when it comes to the biggest publisher in the world, and that doesn't go over well, either.

But in all honesty, besides the port problem, I really don't see God-awful games with EA's name on it. They publish a great many titles developed by other studios, and in the case of GTAIV, that would probably be just another game with EA's label on it. Rockstar will still handle development duties, yes? In general, while EA themselves has indeed recognized a quality lagging in the new generation, it's not like they're making horrid games. And they're certainly not publishing horrid games, either.

In reality, if someone says they'll never buy a game published by EA, they're almost guaranteed to miss out on must-play games in the future. That's just how I see it.

Not really
I haven't bought an EA game since 2005 and I don't feel like I've missed anything.

Their last great game was SSX3.

Miss out on must-play games? Only if EA take over a company that's making a must-play game.
Skate is the perfect example of EA's games. It's Tony Hawk made to be "hip". Seriously, the instructional voice on that thing made me think of a 60 year old business man in a suit giving the thumbs up while saying "groovy". Then there's Rock Band. Oh, let's make Guitar Hero, give it a new name and add a couple of instruments. Really original.
Anything "new" that comes from EA will be done far better by someone else not long after....if it hasn't been already. personally, I'd rather wait a couple of months.

Dude, your hate for EA is laughable. Its not EA's fault that the last Tony Hawk game was subpar. skate was just an all around better game in a lot of people's eyes.

You are aware of who made the first 2 guitar hero games right? the same people who did rock star. Please tell me how they are copying GH3 if they laid the damn ground work for the first 2 highly popular games. Harmonix is the developer of those games with the exception of GH3 and afterwards. I'm not really defending EA either, its just that sometimes you cant let ignorance run rampant.

Battlefield Bad Company is another great game that so happens to have EA's name on it, but in your eyes i guess its a copy of CoD4. Nevermind the fact that DICE has a good track record ( DICE is the developer of that AND Mirror's Edge btw).

If you hate EA for what they have done to football games, i can understand that to a certain degree. But i swear, some of you guys would hate games you absolutely love if it even mentions EA somewhere on the game. Lovers of GTA4 would absolutely hate it only cuz of the EA name on it. Sad really....

Poet: You're talking about two games that were received exceedingly well by the critics. You're also hinting that we at PSXE don't really know what we're doing, because we gave Rock Band Music Game of the Year in 2007, and we also thought SKATE was pretty darn good.

But then again...we're hardly the only site to see it this way.

I really hated that ea took the rights to the NFL, but EA does make good games. I think that if they want to improve the quality of their games they should work with what they have. Instead of doing that thy try to buy out Take two, who obviously doesn't want to join EA, but just cant say no to all that money.

Wow, their is a lot of hate for EA in this room. Poet: I do not going to agree with aaronisbla that your hate for EA is laughable, but it is misinformed. But I agree with the rest of his statement. I don't feel EA is some evil corporation. They are smart business men. I don't feel their killing creativity. I feel their giving it a stable environment for developers. By EA acquiring top notch developers they making themselves better company. Do you hate Squaresoft for buying out Enix. Since the Buy out or merger I have seen more Enix titles make it to the states. It's disappointing you will missing out on some great titles for misguided hate for EA.

I am really not a fan of EA and I have friends who develop games for them. Ea is about numbers more than games. They do make some great games and they make some crappy ones but I have heard too many stories about Game X being this good until manager Y steps in and cuts the budget since people are going to buy it anyway so no need to spend the money to make the game a 9 or 10 when enough people will buy a 6 or 7 game to turn a profit.

Sadly I'm put off buying an EA game simply because I haven't had a good experience with them in the past. But I like what they're doing with Mirrors Edge, it looks nice, and shock horror ladies and gentlemen, it's ORIGINAL! Yes, and original game from EA! But seriously the hate has been spun out of proportion. Maybe just not buy the game if you don't like EA, or check out reviews first, or hire. Then we wouldn't have this "big bad business producing bad games" problem. Am I the only one who thinks GTA is past its prime? That GTA IV didn't deserve the hype? I'm gonna get flamed for that...
