PSXE Spotlight: Prince Of Persia

Welcome to the first of a series we're calling the "PSX Extreme Spotlight," where we simply turn your attention towards an upcoming title that has caught our attention. These will pop up whenever the inspiration strikes so don't expect a set schedule...really, what's the point of that?

Anyway, our first Spotlight game is Ubisoft's next-gen Prince of Persia, which is shaping up very nicely. Every time we see more of this game, we become more and more excited, and more and more convinced that this one will be a definite winner. Die-hard fans of the titles that arrived last generation may not like the new look or style, but it's guaranteed to appeal to a wide variety of action aficionados. With everything from a streamlined gameplay structure that focuses on speed and dexterity rather than timing and contemplation, to one-on-one boss-like combat scenarios, PoP is a looker. We've been gathering up information and details for several months now, and there has never been a time when we were disappointed in what we unearthed. Your partner in crime, Elika, will be a major part of this cooperative-based adventure, and at first, we didn't like the idea. But now that we've seen how it will work, we're 100% psyched once again.

The game still has a rather vague "Q4 2008" release estimate, but regardless of when it arrives, we'll be expecting nothing but excellence from Ubisoft. It'd be a mistake to overlook this one, fellow action fans. And now, we point you towards our PoP-related content:

I believe the initial launch date for this ridiculously amazing title is "Nov 18" of this year.

I'm still torn between this game...on the one hand it has something new, with the 2nd NPC that does alot without making the game easy or too little and being a burden. On the other, the idea of epic 1-1 fights, while neat in theory, don't massivly capture my attention. It might come down to personaly taste but I loved being swarmed by enemies and taking then down in flowing, bloody violence, such as the swinging round the pole move in PoP:WW (how cool was that!??!)
Anyway I will undoubtly buy it because as a series I am yet to be disapointed with it

I shared a lot of the same concern's with this one. The new "illustrative" design appears to be pretty impressive. The new story and new character's could work very well together. (Hopefully) I will also miss taking on multiple enemies at once but I doubt this title won't not impress. The new enemies seem pretty tough. I was so so on this game at first but all the footage I have seen and all the info I have read on it convinces me this game will be nothing but completely stellar and far from a let down.

I am a hardcore PoP gamer, playing through each several times and loving it. When I heard a new one was coming out, I was Very excited. But the new art style somewhat disappointed me perhaps because it was simply different from what I am used to. Now however, it doesn't bother me at all and I kinda embrace the idea. I will surely miss the hoards of enemies but the one-on-one doesn't seem bad. One thing I do not like about this game is the big spring jump from those glowing red things on the wall. They just seem to be an excuse for when the designers needed the prince to be in a location that would otherwise be very difficult to program into a level. Same thing with the co-op jump, though that doesn't bother me as much. If only the prince did those things using his own devices like in God of War. I suppose I just don't like the idea of having a magical flying friend helping you around all the time.

It's cell shading. It's awsome, remember Dragonball Z :Budokai 3, thats what it's like. I love PoP, and they're all great and this one seems like no exception.
