Extra Online Fee Required For Guitar Hero: World Tour PS3?

You just can't put anything by the eagle-eyed Internet gaming surfers, now can you?

Avid readers from all over, including the readers of our site, have noticed something troublesome regarding the PlayStation 3 and Wii versions of Guitar Hero: World Tour. It's due to a little blurb spotted at the end of an IGN article on the game, which mentions "an additional subscription" for the unfortunate PS3 and Wii owners. We're not exactly sure what this means, but everyone has been forming their own theories and opinions thus far. Here's what everyone is questioning:

"Online gameplay is only available for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and Wii and may require an additional subscription."

What, the regular ol' online subscription isn't good enough? PS3 and Wii owners are going to be pretty darn unhappy with Activision if this proves to be true, and they actually have to pay more just to play World Tour online. Of course, it does help that the Network is free - while Xbox Live isn't - but even so, what makes the 360 so special in this particular scenario? Why would Activision try to wrest more money from the hands of PS3 and Wii owners? Hopefully, we can get to the bottom of this shortly, because Guitar Hero: World Tour is a definite multiplayer bash...and no upsetting the fans!

The advertising doesn't mention a fee, only a subscription to something...which may or may not require a fee.
If there is a fee however, i'd like to give the names of Activision's top brass to a man with a sniper rifle.

I really like the drum set for Guitar Hero: World Tour but if this info is accurate I guess I will being getting Rock Band 2. So long as EA isn't as greedy and Activision.

Definetly be getting RB2...84 on disc songs...plus the 54 from RB1...plus an additional twenty songs after realese...for free...AND CHINESE DEMOCRACY!!!

GH sucks anyway...

guitar hero brought this franchise in or at least made it popular... what the f**k do they think they're doing. if so aint any more gh for me. Im more of a rpg/fps myself anyways

IN metal gear4 i just seen doc get sum action. Game is turning out to be quite a buy. And now i see why everyone is buying a ps3 for this game. the game is almost worth 500 dolla itself.

Ben please read this.... I really think the guy who informed you might have read that wrong. It looks as if they are saying online available on all 3 systems.

It lists the 360, followed by a comma, list the ps3 and the Wii. if you read that wrong it does seem like they are only making you pay extra for the ps3 and wii versions.

If im right, then its saying that all versions with online might require a subscription. but for me to be right on that, there would have to be other versions of the game coming out besides the 3 main systems. is it coming out on the ps2 or other consoles?

It doesn't sound like its saying PS3 and Wii users will have to pay extra its all seperated by commas.

Online gameplay is only available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii,

and may require an additional subscription like from your ISP or for downloadable content.

If paying an additional fee is true, then that's yet ANOTHER thing to PO all the PS3 owners. The biggest previous one being the fact that GH and RB Guitars don't play nicely with each other, even though there is a patch that cannot be released without HMX paying a "fee" to Activision (while the 360 has no such problems, of course). They already got us to buy additional guitars, so now they had to figure out some other way to make us pay for the next round.

Even further, why would anyone with a Wii pay extra to play online when they don't even have DLC? Seems like that'd get really boring really quick.

As people has said, the sentence says that it may be a fee for all systems, not only PS3 and Wii.

If this is true then people are just gonna go to Rock Band 2 or the other game whatever it's name is and skip GH all together. It's gonna bite them in their ass...

I can't see Activision actually making ANYONE pay an additional fee. That would be like handing over the keys to Harmonix. I has to be a misunderstanding. That would just be a huge mistake.

I read it as the seventh generation consoles being able to go online with an annual subscription. It just looks confusing with the commas.

They are just covering their backsides by stating that playing on one of those systems might require an extra subscription. Which is true for Microsoft ONLY. It wouldn't be legal for them to advertise the game plays online then to find out after you buy it that to play on the xbox 360 you have to pay a monthly fee. So they cover themselves legally with that little disclaimer, which in this case only applies to the Xbox although they dont bother to state that part probably not to tick of MS by highlighting their disadvantage.

With the competition they are in with rock band, they cant do something like that.

I think AARON is right, there should be a comma after wii, wich means that the subscription would apply to all online play.
