FF Versus XIII To Be More Traditional?

In case some of the more bitter had already forgotten, Final Fantasy Versus XIII remains exclusive to the PlayStation 3. Yes, it's true that Final Fantasy XIII is now a multiplatform title, but due to the status of Versus, perhaps we should know a bit more about it...? After all, this just so happens to be a PlayStation-oriented site.

Square-Enix has been strangely tight-lipped about this game in the past, and while we do have a video here and there, we certainly haven't seen any gameplay just yet. Furthermore, we have heard that concrete information and details will remain on hold until FFXIII is officially out the door in Japan, which means we'll have to wait a few months. In the meantime, though, one source claims to have a baseline description of Versus. According to TalkPlayStation, this game will - in some ways - be more like the old-fashioned, traditional FF titles from the original PlayStation era. The combat will be real-time instead of turn-based, but as far as the exploring and storytelling are concerned, that'll be closer to games like FFVII and FFVIII. Hence, the return of the world map, exploring ancient ruins and towns, learning of the story sequentially via cut-scenes, etc.

However, as they cite no source, we can only count this information as rumor and speculation. But that brings us to an interesting point: considering we know very little about Final Fantasy Versus XIII, what do you think it'll be like? You can be as vague or specific as you wish, and if you really don't know, just tell us what you'd want it to be like. Personally, I want it to be a FFVII sequel. 'cough'

Wow, tough question. Well I want it to have the option of a world map with monsters popping up out of no where but also have the option to be able to roam around like 12. Either way i have high hopes for this one. More so than 13.

to be honest from what i have read im more interested in Versus than in the regular version.. i hear theyre different and both worth getting.

I was starting to think I was the only one who has been way more interested in Versus XIII than XIII since the info for them both started surfacing. Way before the multiplatform announcement of XIII, and continued exclusivity of Versus. Nomura said it would be a darker Kingdom Hearts. Anything Kingdom Hearts related and I'm sold, plain and simple. Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 are some of my all time favorites, and I was one of the skeptics before they were released. I can't think of anything better than a Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts mix, that my friends has the potential to be RPG greatness.

I am still with Final Fantasy XIII rather than versus but I would love to get both.
one reason i say it is that the main series has always been better for me.
But i still find it annoying how 13 is for 360

XII was not world map. It was different sections split off.

The classic world map went anywhere and never closed off unless you went into a city or specific area, etc.

Ben I'm with you. I want it to be a VII sequel! Hehe, and no harsh feelings against XII, that game sucked plain and simple. I hated how they did it. Anyways man, I honestly want Versus more than XIII. Versus seems more promising and it is based on our Earthly world map.

Since the beginning of Versus unvealing I have been more interested in it than in XIII. As for a world map in a traditional way... I hope they do implement that rather than the worlds like FFX. When you have an overworld it makes the world seem massive where in FFX the WORLD seemed only to stretch 50 miles at most. The graphics may be less than amazing, but don't you think with the new age technology that they can make an overworld that is more realistic? That or someone needs to come up with a great idea to have an overworld where it's features are more visually stimulating. I also miss flying the airships in the overworld.

As for what I'm expecting from Versus I can't really say. So far I like what they've shown which isn't much... It seems to be darker. Where FFXIII is very vibrant and colorful, Versus seems dark and secret. I actually love the contrast and I'm hoping that they show both of those stories in that way. I have no idea otherwise what I expect... I just have to say I can't wait for both of them to come out.

Hmm maybe we get to drive that car in the trailer in the world map. Playing Star Ocean: The Second Story the other day reminded me of the "mini-cities" and world travelling. I wouldn't mind this as long as everything dosn't look to wildly out of proportion.

I personally dun min if it's traditional or not as long as it's got good music, good character development, good story, fun fun fun, mini-games/sidequests and a world map...

I want Versus XIII more than 13, like other people have said, only because I like the dark look of the game as Fatcat said. I'm just hoping nothing gets too over or underplayed, meaning like i don't want something to have so much into it it's not good, or not have enough work put into it. You get me?

Isn't the Kingdom Hearts team doing FFVXII?

Take KH2 combat, think of something, disregard THAT thought, think of a totally different thing that's completely unexpected, and tweak it. I have a feeling thats gonna come close to FFVXII, seeing as how the same formula was followed with the jump between KH and KH2, with reactions and the DRIVE meter and all...

Then again, it could be absolutely and completely different, but i doubt it. The KH-style combat (and the menu, for that matter) worked twice, spectacularly, by some accounts. There's no real reason not to take that and put a FF skin on it.

Otherwise, why take the KH team and stick them on a FF title instead of having them take up work on an assuredly ludicrously lucrative KH3 title?

Whether there is a world map or not.... FF XIII VERSUS is gonna b kick ass .... specially kicking 360's ass coz the crap despite of giving tonns of $$$$ it cannot get FF XIII versus........!!!
