DMC Creator Wants Bayonetta To "Exceed" God Of War 3
Are you a big fan of the critically acclaimed and massively popular Devil May Cry series? Were you one of the many who enjoyed this year's fourth installment? Then it is now your duty to pay close attention to what the franchise's creator has to say about his new project: Bayonetta.
Hideki Kamiya's expectations for the game are high, because during an interview with EGM, he said he wants to "make a game that exceeds" God of War 3. Most are anxiously anticipating the new GoW, and just about every industry critic fully believes it will be downright fantastic. But can Bayonetta really compete? Well, Kamiya has certainly done his homework on the genre at hand:
"Out of all those action titles, there's one game that I am paying really close attention to, that I think is a rival game, a good game, which is called God of War 3. So there's like a wall for your imagination or ideas, and when you're actually creating something, you don't even see the wall. But with GOW, I felt like I saw beyond the wall. I felt like they created the game in a very good way which managed to bring in the users, they gave you a huge impactful feeling right in the beginning, and just drew you into the game. So I'm very impressed that they made the game like that."
At the same time, Kamiya isn't quite as impressed with Tecmo's Ninja Gaiden series, but that's mostly because he never played the games. Still, he makes a point of saying that "the quality that gets you interested in something is that you feel something for them." As far as he's concerned, NG "just didn't have the power" to do that, which is why he wasn't interested. There's no doubt that the production value and presentation of GoW is always insane, and it seems we'll be getting that level of polish with Bayonetta if Kamiya has his way.
If you head over to the game's official site, you'll see some baseline intro information, along with an exceedingly bloody teaser trailer where a woman (at least, we assume it's a woman, what with that high heel in the last shot there) absolutely decimates what appears to be a fallen angel of some kind with a hail of bullets. ...could this be our next PSXE Spotlight? Damn, we're intrigued.

Btw Gaiden sucked ass, a piece of garbage that piled dust in my room. Played it because of the graphics, as soon as I got my hands on Heavenly Sword it dragged me away from it. More freedom, easier to control and better gameplay. Gaiden was a waste of my time and money and so I sold it back.

As for Ninja Gaiden, I couldn't get into it on three separate occasions. First with NG, then again with NG Black, and once again with Sigma. The story wasn't interesting, and it didn't pull me through the gameplay near well enough to warrant me sitting in front of the screen long enough to finish it. The Devil May Cry games were the same way, though, so... haha. I prefer games that have a nice plot as well as a narrative that pushes that plot from beginning to end. God of War went far and beyond my expectations in that matter, so I'd love to see games *compete* with it, or try to, rather than follow in its footsteps like the Conan game did.
Ramble ramble.

But really, what he said I think is just a way to cast marketing attention to his future product...
Btw, NG's have never been as cinematic as GOW's or DMC's, but they've always had the deepest gameplay.

As for "DMC Creator Wants Bayonetta To 'Exceed' God Of War 3" ... haha! No but the trailer does look pretty sweet. I never even heard of this game before... I think.

GoW franchise does what it does well. No offense but you kinda sound like those type of gamers that hate on the flavor of the month to "stand out" and gain some type of elite status.

Just 2 months before GoW III comes out, I'll buy 1 and 2 and beat them.

But, i never have been able to understand the notion of playing as scantily clad dressed in SM heroine, that seems to be in some games. Maybe it is a continually failed attempt at winning over female consumers, or a manifestation of latent transvestism in some. And if saying that makes me a chauvinist or politically incorrect, so be it. I only exercise diplomacy when I have to.

To Ben, again, I concur that the diversity or variety of combos adds to style, but not necessarily to substance or depth, unless the diversity of combos actually is critical to the conquering of the enemy, as opposed to just racking up an "SSS" rank. For example, the blocking/countering of Royal Guard, though cool, was not critical, because you could dodge an enenmy attack even more easily. In other games, knowing when to block, counter, or dodge will make the difference between life and death, or success and failure. Therefore, in those cases, that is an actual added dimension of depth, that is critical enough to influence the gameplay. Throw a fresh roster of enemies, with increasingly tenacious ai for each difficulty level, and it really feels like you're playing an new game each time.
