Sony Customer Service: Home Beta Invites Go Out Today?

The PlayStation Home beta should be right around the corner, although we don't have any official release date for the launch. We have been promised multiple times by SCEA that PS3 users in the U.S. will soon see invites to the beta and it won't slip out of 2008. Well, if you didn't notice the calendar, today is the first business day of September, and perhaps that could mean something...

A member of the official PlayStation boards decided to simply call and ask Sony Support when the Home beta invites will go out. He called several times and actually recorded them; it's the first call that has caused Internet ears to perk right up. You can listen to the first two calls over at FeedOnPS3, and as you clearly hear in the first call, the woman says the beta invites should go out "today." On the other hand, during the second call, the customer rep says, "unfortunately, they don't tell us that," which actually sounds more realistic. It would seem bizarre for a customer service rep to have the information before Sony released an official announcement on the issue, but hey, you never know... The optimists are going to be dissecting that first conversation word by word, that's for sure.

For our part, we will try to contact Sony and see if they have anything to say, but we're guessing we'll still have to wait. Nobody is more excited about Home than PSXE, but we're not about to grasp blindly at straws without anything concrete.

wait, if this is the invite for the OPEN HOME BETA, shouldn't everyone been invited, no matter if you're online a lot or not at all? as long as you've registered for PSN, you should be invited right?

Well in all honesty, we've had many of those "I called sony and.." Suprisingly enough, none of the information that comes out of the conversation ends up being true. But who knows, there's a first time for everything right?

A friend of mine from the UK was invited into the beta over there. (He's been a little tight lipped about it, they probably make you sign a disclosure) Had to be about 3 weeks ago. I haven't heard anything about over here so hopefully this is true. I would love to be in the beta, but who really knows how these things get picked by sony.

well we can all hope anyway cause the truth is, you dont really know so lets not start doubting sony guys. you could get an invite and there is a chance you wont but ill remane hopeful anyway and if it dont happen then bumber lol.

Sony must hate me. I am an Playstation Underground Member since 1997. A GAP member since 2007. Over $300 on the PSN. PS3 registered. All my games are registered. Over 30 games (not including PSN). Downloaeded Home Theme. (Owned every Playstation System since day 1.)

And no Home for me... Come on Sony, your most faithful did not get picked. Yet people who have only had their PS3 for a month were picked, only because they bought a Qore Annual Subscription. Wake up Sony you are killing your hardcore gamer here.
