Sony On Home Beta: "Expect To See A Lot Of New Faces"
Yesterday, we heard a rumor that a new round of PlayStation Home beta invites went out, thanks to a recorded phone call with Sony customer service. Of course, as you see in our previous article, another phone call didn't confirm the same thing, but nevertheless it got people talking.
So of course, we wanted the official word on the issue and turned to Sony. We received the following reply to our query from SCEA's Abigail Murphy:
"This week we are admitting the next big wave of testers into the closed beta. We've been admitting testers in over the past few weeks, but this week, expect to see a lot of new faces. A round of invites did go out this afternoon."
A little while back, we heard that those who had downloaded the PlayStation Home PS3 theme were automatically entered into a drawing for the closed beta. Sony would then select their new testers based on Network activity, which meant that those who spent a good deal of time online would be at the top of the list. Apparently, Sony is making good on this promise and ushering in the aforementioned "new faces." This is good news for the progression of this promising application, and we're all looking forward to the open/public beta. We'll keep you apprised of that situation as well, but in the meantime: yes, new invites did go out. Clarified. :)
Oh, and to clarify just a bit further, these invites went out to U.S. users, so we don't have to suffer from more region confusion. And we figure that's only fair; European PS3 owners have had a shot at the closed beta for quite some time now.

And no Home for me... Come on Sony, your most faithful did not get picked. Yet people who have only had their PS3 for a month were picked, only because they bought a Qore Annual Subscription. Wake up Sony you are killing your hardcore gamer here.
Edit: I also leave it on 24/7 folding at home, because I know many people with cancer. What did I not do Sony, even they guy who never got on his PS3 got it...

I also enjoy playing Team sports on a daily occasion. (Flag Football, Basketball, Softball, etc.)
Also, I did not say I play 24/7, I play maybe 2hrs a day. I fold at home, because I lost my dad to cancer, so again, keep your snipe comments about someone you do not know to yourself.

Home is not a huge draw for me. It never has been and I doubt it ever will be. I'm not a big fan of avatar-based social interaction. It's just not my thing. However, I have always recognized the value that it will add to the Playstation brand if it is executed well.
It appears to me that this is being done correctly. There is still work to be done and I can understand why Sony has been delaying things, trying to make sure it goes smoothly. But what I have seen so far is a great beginning. I think Home is going to be everything that Sony has said and will provide a great social interaction method that will blow every other current console method away.
Slow and steady may win the race, no matter how frustrating it is waiting for it.
