Midway: The Wheelman Still On Track
Perhaps due to the delay issues, some may have been ready to believe the unfortunate rumor surrounding Vin Diesel's new game effort, The Wheelman. The rumor stated that publisher Midway may actually have plans to shut down the development studio responsible for the title. But this just isn't so.
According to an interview with Midway CEO Matt Booty, developer Newcastle is still very much at the wheel (forgive the pun), and the game should release some time during the first half of next year. "Newcastle is a very important studio for us," said Booty. "We just brought in a new studio head, Craig Duncan, formerly with Codemasters, so I think those two things are an indication that we've got a very strong commitment to that studio. [This is] a front line important game for [Midway] in the first half of 2009." Normally, we'd have our reservations about a project where a movie celebrity is directly involved in the proceedings, but Diesel surprised everyone with the top-notch Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay in 2004. His studio, Tigon, really smacked that one out of the park.
For some recent Wheelman content, be sure to check out the latest video, which proves this game really is quite promising. And don't worry; it certainly isn't canceled.
