PlayStation Bluetooth Headset: "Behind The Scenes" Info
By now, you savvy consumers have already learned all about the official PlayStation Bluetooth headset that's coming this fall, so you know about the early facts: it's coming with SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation, it's coming as a standalone peripheral with a Mute button and a Charging Cradle, and it will even work with your Bluetooth-enabled cell phones. But you don't know everything yet.
Sony Product Manager Anand Agarwal posted more behind-the-scenes info on this nifty unit over at the official PlayStation blog. These new features will be delivered via firmware update for the PS3 this fall, which means that update is gonna be hugely anticipated. You can see the entire list at the blog, but here's the quick summary- the headset will boast "High-Quality (HQ) Mode," which will "take advantage of advanced voice technologies," the PS3 will "display an in-game status indicator" that will only work with this headset, and the headset will even act as a desktop microphone while charging! Man, all this stuff just sounds so appealing, and we can't wait until that firmware arrives to bring this headset into the limelight even further.
You can nab the official PlayStation-branded Bluetooth headset if you purchase the Confrontation bundle for $59.99, or you can simply pick up the standalone peripheral for $49.99. These come in mid-October along with the launch of the game.
