White Knight Chronicles Releases On December 11 In Japan?

After making a relatively big splash at last year's Tokyo Game Show, Level 5's White Knight Chronicles dropped off the radar. We looked high and low for new info (that rhymes), but we always came up empty. However, the first glimmer of hope arrived last week when the game's official site listed the words, "The Days of Awakening Are Coming Soon". Then, we heard a rumor that the game would certainly be in attendance at TGS 2008, so has all that led up to this?

According to Scrawl, the latest Famitsu actually has a Japanese release date for White Knight Chronicles! Obviously, we can't be certain of this until we hear the official word (perhaps on the way at TGS), but it's certainly encouraging if true. The date is set as December 11, 2008, and if accurate, we're all kinds of excited. We're not expecting a worldwide simultaneous launch - this just doesn't happen with JRPGs - but if it drops in Japan in December, can the U.S. and Europe expect it a month or two later? Or, if they can speed up the localization process, maybe the difference will only be a matter of weeks! ...okay, we're just reaching on that last bit; that probably isn't possible. But either way, any release date at all right now is a good sign, especially with the previous evidence we've acquired over the past few weeks. It's all small and seemingly even insignificant, but hey, we're clingin' to the lifeline.

This could be the first huge RPG for the PlayStation 3, especially with so many other projects so far off in the distance. And besides, haven't they been working on this game for several years now? They must be nearing the finish line!

great news. now all we need to know is how far away is the english release. better yet y not give us english subtitles in the japanese release. i've always preferred JRPGs to be in Japanese with subtitles rather than dubbed in English. imo that makes for a more authentic experience.

who knows if they release it with english subtitles, it might be the biggest export out of japan in that week ;)

Factor 5 was behind Lair. Its a little confusing! But I hope this is true. This almost certainly says we will, in fact, see it @ TGS this year.

This reminds me of when people said FFXIII Vs was slated for november.

If its too good to be true, it probably is.

Well, actually, there was never an official date for FFXIII. All of that was just rumor.

This is a real date in Famitsu, so I'm HOPING it means something. Hope against hope, as they say. ;)

Level 5 is a Japanese Gaming Company that released several titles. Their FIRST PS3 game is White Knight Chronicles. Lair was released by an American Company so don't worry. Level 5 knows best ... plus, if you want to see their latest work then be sure to hit Jeanne d'Arc on PSP ... it is freaking awesome and IMO, better battle system then FFT.

I sure hope so, I need an RPG fast or I'm gonna die of...uh...RPGtislessness, yeah, that's it, RPGtislessness, it kills hudreds of gamers a year.
P.S. What do all of you have against Lair? It was a good game.

imo = in my opinion

Almost if not all of Level-5's rpgs are real time.

If you've followed their games(Dark Cloud, Rouge Galaxy, etc.) you'd see what they're like.

I love 'em :)

First day buy for me, but maybe its time someone started a petition (a tad more realistic than the one for FFXIII) in favor of turn-based RPGs coming back, it could be distributed to all the major companies who made them in the past. Button mashing must die.
