Insomnaic: Resistance 2 Textures "Significantly Improved"
If you've been following Resistance 2, you probably already know this: Insomniac says they're workin' hard to make the graphics a whole lot better than they were in the original title. Notice the detailing going on in some levels in those videos? Yeah, pretty sweet.
According to the Full Moon Show, a podcast where Insomniac devs get a chance to chat about their favorite project right now, they talk about how the "textures have significantly improved since the previous week." That's right, the team actually managed to enhance the textures in one week's worth of development time, which just goes to show how cool these podcasts really are. Follow along with the process; just for the hardcore gamer! At one point in the podcast, they even mention that some areas are so well-designed that you might actually "feel" the sensation of the surrounding environment. For example, if you're in Iceland, it's so authentic, you might feel cold! Yeah, it'll all be in your head, but still... Everything we've seen so far has been pretty damn amazing, and if you don't believe us, just check our PS3 videos. We've got all kinds of stuff in there, including the gameplay shown off at E3 that featured the huge, intimidating Chimeran enemy!
As we get closer and closer to November, we'll continue to fill you in on the progress of Resistance 2, and those Full Moon podcast always help a great deal. If you want to hear the full hour, you can listen to it over at Insomniac's official site. Yep, designed specifically for all you true gamin' nuts out there!

Haha I loved the psxextreme magazine back in the ps1 days so it was natural for me to frequent this site. Not sure if it's related to the magazine but the logo's 'bout the same...
The writers here are superb, unbiased and straight to the point with some really good sidenotes and such.
Limited Edition, eh? I would so preorder the game too but I've never felt the urge to really get Limited Editions or whatever. Just really want this sick game! Imsoniac has really done an amazing job with their two main titles.

I do have to agree that the graphics are "Significantly Improved" after seeing the very first video where Nathan Hale is boarding the helicopter. That video alone gives me some high hopes and expectations!

Anyways, with R2, it still seems suffering from the curse of under-appreciation... but not from me. I'm actually expecting more from this game than even from Gears2. They've really changed the look of the game from closed quarters and uniformly dark colors, to very sprawling, expanses and bright colors. But being developed by Insomniac, I'm sure that it is being handled by the best of hands in the industry...

No computer in the world can run without Memory.
its the same with PS3.
It have 256 MB XDR RAM for System and 256 MB XDR RAM for RSX.
if PS3 not use its 256MB RAM, PS3 wont be able to run games.
ps3 will just become a pice of junk.
Loading data directly from Blu-ray or HDD is disaster.
its VERY SLOW.
thats why SONY use ULTRA FAST and EXPENSIVE ram on PS3. XDR RAM.
but with only 256MB video RAM, its hard to fit Hi res textures.
@Zubs
PS3 Need a GPU, its needed for rendering the Graphic.
PS3 CELL CPU already busy with AI, audio, physics, and many other computing.
Thats why SONY use NVIDIA GeForce 7 Series on PS3. renamed as RSX.
altough RSX is outdated and slow, it still can give decent graphic if the game engine is optimized carefully.
as for this statement of yours
"If u wana compare than mb's,its not 256mb, more like 3.2Gb x 8 ;-) "
CELL (ps3) is 3.2GHz x 6 :D not 3.2Gb x 8.
Xenon (xbox 360) is 3.2 x3 x2 (each core can do 2 threads).
both CELL and Xenos can do 6 thread at 3.2GHz.
the only difference is CELL use 5 SPE and 1 PPE,
Xenos use 3 PPE.
as for xbox 360 need ATi 512MB, its because its needed.
all games need fast GPU to deliver great graphic.
the same with PS3, it need its RSX.
although as i said, 256MB RSX RAM is too little for hi res textures.
BUT, Insomniac has overcome this.
they are clever :D

Again the Cell is very complicated, there are games like MGS4 which can reach a high level of textures. Most of the low res texture games are ports or bad games.
You can talk all you want 'bout RAM but comparing the textures in the games between the two consoles and the differences don't really tip heavily in one way or the other.
I'd say that Killzone2 rapes any 360 game in that aspect.
Remember that in the end you're not game dev, you're just basing your statements on the old way of computer programming. The archaic way.
Remember when devs where having trouble? That's because you can't code like you'd code for PC on the ps3.
Those who can code get intense stuff like Killzone2, MGS4, Uncharted, etc.

Yes, i understand the nature of Wikipedia. its free to be edited by anyone.
but i certainly know which is true and not.
as for the PS3 hardware info and X360 hardware info, wikipedia already true.
if you still need more convincing website, you can see it yourself on IBM official website.
for games, PS3 use 1 PPE, 6 SPE.
although CELL is designed to have 1PPE and 8SPE.
PS3 used the defective CELL processor.
the cpu with 1 broken SPE.
so PS3 only have 7SPE , 1 reserved for game os.
CELL with full 8 SPE only used in servers.
what sony do by using "Defective" CELL is just to cut price and improve yields.
its like AMD with its 3-core CPU.
its bascally a 4-core but with 1 broken core.

one thing i know for sure,
Textures need to be loaded to RAM, and the higher the resolution, the higher the space needed.
and im sure my statement above is right.
Cell is great, but games need RAM.
using HDD as video RAM is completely ridiculus.
using HDD as system RAM is already a lot slower than physical RAM.
by using HDD to extend the PS3 video ram then the game access directly to HDD your game will lag like hell. unstable frame rate, pop-ins. and more.
Textures are loaded from disc/HDD. But it need to stay on RAM to be accessed FAST.
the latency is too high if you use HDD.
as for MGS4,
Snake's textures is great, but the environment textures is bad. its low res.
just see CoD4 in extreme texture setting, you will see what i mean by Hi-Res texture.
thats why i say Insomniac is great, to be able to overcome all these limitation.
maybe they use new texture compression, or better texture filtering,
i dont know, but whatever team Insomniac do, they have done one great job.

If Resistance 2 can get close to those I'll be happy
